I lol'd at seeing the podcast in the replies, but pissflexit.gif sent me over the edge. Just the idea of a professional journalist staring at it and trying to deduce its meaning.

Listen from about 2mins on. He's not a great speaker, but the content is good. Ian Colin Lucas is a British Labour Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament for Wrexham, Wales from 2001 to 2019 and is on The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee - not standing in upcoming election as far as I know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pg621W2YaXc

Braggart posted:I've had a feeling for a while that Scottish Labour couldn't be fixed until after a Labour election victory. Now that that's like a month off I feel even more confident I think the chances of Scotlab holding on to our seats depends on whether the election becomes about independence (!surprise!) or stays on domestic issues. Many first-time SNP 2015 voters were de-energised by the 2017 campaign that essentially didn’t involve the independence issue. A combination of this plus unionist tactical voting explains most of the seats the SNP lost in 2017. Scotlab exceeded these expectations in a few Glasgow seats, but generally had almost the same number of votes in each seat as in 2015 - the SNP vote just dropped by much more. If we get a repeat of 2017 where it’s about the domestic agenda for the UK then i reckon Scotlab keeps steady. However our party’s incomprehensible (or nonexistent) independence strategy will ruin us if we are in for a repeat of 2015.

https://twitter.com/berggruenInst/status/1192531997706444800?s=20 Okay, I have question why anyone would want to listen to this loving idiot after he was so definitively proven to be talking shite with his end of history guff, but that headline is very enjoyable. Francis Fukuyama saying "socialism ought to come back" is like Milton Friedman saying it.

Genuinely the concept of "the end of history" was the peak of ultra-liberal arrogance. We've won, and perfected politics, and things can only get better. (Enter Stage Right: 9/11, the nature of capitalism, etc.)
