There seem to be two liberal opinions on this: - This is good because Morales was bad and unsupported by The People, which I know because some expat on the internet told me so - No one can really say whether it's good or bad, because it's impossible to prove that Morales wasn't bad and that this wasn't The Will Of The People

There is also a third option -Wait, maybe the accusations of him being bad are true or something? I better check with people who know better and...oh, yeah, don't know why I thought this time would be different.

Generally all the evidence of underhanded bullshit starts to trickle out a few years after this, at which time liberals will have washed their hands and moved on to the Peru campaign etc.

Majorian posted:Depends on if Morales has the same gently caress-you-itiveness that Chavez did to launch a counter-coup. I’d guess no, sadly, but I’d like to be wrong. In 2002, Chavez refused to resign which led the military to just sort of kidnap him and make the coup look even more legally hosed up. The big question is if the whole military supports this move, or if junior officers might be pro-Morales and refuse to follow orders. That's a big reason Chavez survived 2002.

CAPS LOCK BROKEN posted:Generally all the evidence of underhanded bullshit starts to trickle out a few years after this, at which time liberals will have washed their hands and moved on to the Peru campaign etc. by the very nature of intelligence agency fuckery and behind the scenes power grabs, no one will have 100% objective and sourced evidence that this is exactly what it looks like - a rightwing coup supported by the United States. and because nothing of the sort will come out for years, reflexively (and correctly) making the cynical assumption about what's going on in Bolivia will look like a conspiracy theory or Tankie Bullshit to them but hey, the important thing is, when it really counted, the liberal will always be there to be the person who Appears Serious and take the nuanced position of defending the interests of global capitalism
