I have literally never had this problem. Even with a chase credit card merchants in Beijing were able to drag out the card reader. In more bumfuck areas cash is still king.

The point is disingenuous anyway, WeChat just allowed you to link foreign credit cards to your WeChat ID

That's bullshit. Until I can pay dirty bubble tea with wechat its still broken.

so how do we do this? do we make a separate thread, put it in the book barn or something? how much attention/interest is there? i could translate the chapter and section titles.

Chinese officials are cracking down on youth online gaming, which they say negatively affects the health and learning of minors. Official guidelines released Tuesday outline a new curfew and time restrictions for gamers under 18.

Six measures were outlined in the guidelines, aimed at preventing minors "from indulging in online games." Among them is a ban on online video games for minors between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Minors will also be restricted to 90 minutes of game time everyday except national holidays, when they are allowed a maximum of three hours.

Online microtransactions, which many view as lucrative and gouging, are also targeted. These purchases are capped monthly at $28 or $57, depending on a minor's age.

China's new directives implicate adult gamers too. A state spokesperson says that everyone, regardless of age, is prohibited from playing games that depict "sexual explicitness, goriness, violence and gambling."

Chinese officials will also require everyone to register accounts for online games using their real name and phone number, which will help government entities to regulate playing time.

I'm surprised the realID thing is coming back, I thought everyone abandoned that idea in the mid aughts because of how terrible it was.

If you want to do the whole book, you probably can start a new Asian history/geopolitic literature thread in D&D and link the chapters here. I m always in the market for new Asian related nonfiction audiobooks.

I am only interested in bring up/translate very selected paragraphy and do my own commentary on it.

If the game time limit thing isn't trivially circumvented, it could drive some sort of indie / good game renaissance, since pointless online Skinner boxes and microtransactions (but I repeat myself) are being targeted.

I know vanishingly little about China, and I want to get a grip on how Actually Existing Socialism functions. My impression is that they have a bourgeois capitalist society, their capitalist economy is heavily financialized, and they're using it to carry out a colonialist agenda, same as us. But I also get the impression that they proscribe, or at least restrict, various "vulture capitalist" practices that suck up profit for shareholders at the expense of the economy. Is that totally off base?

as supportive as I am of the protesters, broadly speaking, there are safe ways to cause that sort of disruption and unsafe ways, and this is super duper unsafe to the point of threatening random citizens with serious harm or death

it bad

(I'm actually p interested in improving spontaneous road blockade safety, purely as an intellectual exercise of course, and have the sort of boring transportation safety background to contribute :v:)

even with limited manpower you can do bettet than this, come on guys
