How high do passive skill checks go? 16-18?

I'm trying to figure out if it makes sense to take a skill past 10 if you want to be sure that you're passing all of the associated passive checks. I think that the game abstracts the die roll for passives by just adding 5 or 6 to your skill level, but I'm not sure. If that were the case, then 10-12 in a skill is probably the highest that you'd ever want or need for that purpose.

It does? Why wouldn't they just compare the check value to your raw skill then?

I'm honestly not sure, but it seems that every time I highlight a passive check it's showing a comparison against my skill level + 5 or 6. That said, it's entirely possible that I'm method roleplaying and am as confused as our boy.

I think the passives are meant to work on the same difficulty scale as the primary skill checks, since you see each check given a difficulty title and a semi-standard difficulty number for that title. So they wanted to say the passives were the same difficulty numbers, so they used the average roll of 2d6+stat instead of actively rolling those checks. It's unnecessary compared to just checking raw skill value (which would get you the same thing) but was probably done to keep the difficulty numbers similar, even though that's meaningless.

Is there any reason you would ever pick a Nationalist option if you have the "Ravecholian Nationalist" Thought? While punishing Nationalist dialect is cool, it seems a little weird they'd give you a bunch of options to roleplay a Nationalist (and even have a counter for times you picked those options) if they're only ever going to damage you. Another question on mechanics: if you want to see all of the dialogue associated with a thought in your thought cabinet, is it necessary to internalize said thought?

I want to lean in to being Detective Costeau, Superstar. But I've spoiled myself on the advantages/disadvantages of the internalized thoughts, and they're just not worth it to me compared to putting the points elsewhere. Will I be missing out on associated dialogue if I fail to internalize?

There is none and that's exactly how it should be because being a Loyalist is deserved suffering. To be a Revacholian nationalist is to be, even more so than the Revacholian communist, a failure and a loser forced to watch the decay of your ideals and your nation's dignity. There has already been a perfect Revachol, centuries of it, with deep purple cocaine and apricots for all of Revachol's sons (and to a lesser extent) daughters and then it just slipped right through your fingers and sunk into the quagmire of the past. You lost twice, first in the actual war with the communists and then once more spiritually when the communists were exterminated by moralism and the nation occupied by the forces of *GLOBAL* capital. You live in a post-globalist world, a world where you're no longer on top and you have no choice but to be reminded by it with every foreign face crinkled in reciprocated disgust and hate. You never even got to see the true, glorious Revachol, whose dignity and memory only lives on in the hearts and souls of dying old men. So I will ask you: What pride is there to have? You're no René Arnoux, you're just some racist, alcoholic gently caress. King Guillaume abandoned the nation and hosed off to be a capitalist and he's never coming back. At least all the communists got shot in the loving head and don't have to live in this nightmare world. What's your excuse?

Mine is that I'M A MAGNESIUM-BASED LIFE FORM BABY!!!! I'M FULL OF THAT SWEET SWEET MAG!!! *Snorts a line of hypnogamma*

Yo, how do I get to island? I think I've basically done all the things I can really do. Right now everything unfinished seems to be stuff I assume I'll only find on the island. I have to get my gun back, but that's an event at 22:00 at night, and until then I don't think I have anything else to do in the main place. I did just seem to start some poo poo by finally advancing the union/company storyline, rich lady who is only riding around in that boat because she is rich left, and it seems no matter what you say or do she just concedes the docks.I'm also assuming that's where the real culprit will be discovered? I did see above that if I didn't arrest Klassje when it first came up, I never can, which I take to mean she is involved in it all along.

I found I was always getting negative perception from the sea monster sunglasses when not wearing them, and double-negative perception when I was wearing them, and the game defaulted to windowed when I loaded it up, even though the setting was already on "fullscreen". I had to switch it to windowed and back to fullscreen before it would actually be in fullscreen.

Game mechanics-wise, especially if they're going for a tabletop game, I could see room for a "partial success" result. It can be a bit galling when you fail at 97% success chance and act like a chump at the thing you're specialised in.

I've been having more suicidal thoughts than usual because of this game. a little bit because of how much the bleak setting parallels real world politics, but mostly how much I identify with the main character. I'm younger, not a substance abuser, and haven't been through a bad breakup but the core of it is the same. he feels like his life is over and he's just spinning the wheels. he failed and there's nothing left for him except to run out the clock. solving the case is really only a distraction, just like how everything I do is only a distraction. even playing the game

I can empathize to a degree. I'm not having thoughts of self-harm, but I've recently been through my second divorce with a woman whom I was married to almost 10 years. And I also had some substance abuse issues as well as coming from a home with a family full of them. I empathize deeply with the main character, but at least in my case it only made me enjoy the game more. I feel sometimes the writers are writing directly to me, and they're able to channel how I've felt about things or see things into vivid prose. That said, if the game is making you feel more negative thoughts, regardless of how good it is, then play something else. This game works better if you're on the mend and can see the light, for lack of better terms.
