Ooooh, match one, the best wrestler in the world against a WWE bootlicker. Tough choice.
Undisputed Era are fun but that final match Okada at Sakura Genesis is enough to get Shibata through on its own.
Yo, this is loving impossible. PAC & Kento have probably had my 2 favourite title reigns in 2019. PAC's Dream Gate matches were all bare minimum really good, with the Kzy & Ben-K matches in particular standing out as rad. Kento though has had more title matches that are really good or better: the title win over Zeus last year, and then every single title defence this year is well worth watching. Yes, even the Yoshitatsu match from 30th June this year. So I guess I gotta vote Kento but man I'm sad about it.
Gage vs Hiromu would be fun, two really mad bastards but in entirely different ways. But Hiromu is my absolute favourite, it's a no brainer.
I get that Ospreay is a total dope and not likeable as a human being but he's had the most consistently great in-ring year of any male wrestler I've seen. To me this is an easy choice.
I want to vote RPG3K because I love them but they've not really had a memorable year and LAX have done some great stuff.

Ishii/Dunne: Pete Dunne loving sucks
UE/Shibata: UE boys are great, but Shibata's final stand eclipses most wrestlers in this tourney
PAC/Miyahara: argh, tough one. Both are great, but have to give the edge to Miyahara for basically carrying AJPW for the past few years.
Gage/Takahashi: M D K all fuckin day
Ospreay/Sakazaki: Ospreay might flip himself into an early grave, but he gets my vote.
LAX/R3K: LAX/EYFBO are one of the best teams going today, while I go hot and cold with the Roppongi boys.
Pentagon/Owens: For the good times and great memories, Owens gets the vote.

Apologies for skipping the graphics this time; I’m behind. I’ll try to pick that up for the next round.

Special formatting request: Please only list the name of the person you are voting for from each match-up. This will be easier for me to count than bolding names from match-ups. I can work around this if necessary, but if you can vote by just listing the name of your choice, that would be great.

You can abstain from votes. You are not required to list that vote as ‘abstain,’ you just need to skip it.

Kota Ibushi
Finished 5th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread
Eliminated in semi-finals of 2017 WH-128 by Kenny Omega
Eliminated in Round 4 in 2015 by Ricochet
Eliminated in Round 3 in 2013 by Kazushi Sakuraba
Eliminated in Round 3 in 2011 by The Great Muta

Ibushi finally committed to New Japan wrestling full time, which has been heavily reflected in how the company is handling him. He’s no long getting trotted out for fairly meaningless matches and showing up as Tiger Mask W. He’s now the G1 Climax winner and will challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Tokyo Dome. Amazingly athletic, Ibushi almost always has a great match.

Jake Atlas
Did not appear in 2017 WH-128

Atlas is one of the top rising stars on the U.S. indie scene. Just three years into his career, he’s had show stealing matches in GCW & PWG. At BOLA weekend, his matches with Jungle Boy and Dragon Lee were both given four and a half stars by Meltzer. He also has a very good feel for showing charisma in his matches. He’s apparently debating if he should sign with AEW or WWE; regardless of where he goes, he should be a star for that company.

Mayu Iwatani
Did not appear in 2017 WH-128

The sole remaining member of Stardom's Threedom has had the past few years of her career cursed by unfortunate injuries and is in danger of being left behind by the next generation of Stardom talent, but she is still one of the best around when she gets the opportunity to show off her skills. This year, Mayu achieved what was once and unthinkable goal in wrestling at Madison Square Garden, walking in as ROH Women's Champion. If she can remain healthy, she'll surely continue to remain a central pillar of Stardom for years to come. Thanks to George W Bushi for his help with this profile!

Tessa Blanchard
Did not appear in 2017 WH-128

Blanchard has long been one of the top U.S. women wrestlers outside of WWE. She’s primarily been working in Impact and AAA this year. She had a very good match with Gail Kim this year, and a nice feud against Sami Callihan.

Hiroshi Tanahashi
Finished 14th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread
Eliminated in Round 3 of 2017 WH-128 by Tomohiro Ishii
Eliminated in The Quarter-Finals in 2015 by Kazuchika Okada
Eliminated in The Semi-Finals in 2013 by Kazuchika Okada
Eliminated in Round 1 in 2009 by Jamie Noble

The Ace of New Japan! Tanahashi has long been one of the greatest wrestlers in the world. His run on top of New Japan helped revitalize that company, and he won three Wrestler of the Year awards from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He’s now 42, and you can tell his body’s taken the toll from all of his years of top quality, high intensity matches. But he’s still shown his ability to put on matches at the top of New Japan’s card and is still among the best in the world.

LA Park
Did not appear in 2017 WH-128

LA Park is probably the top drawing card in Mexico. He supercharged CMLL’s business when he came in to tease a hair vs. mask feud with Rush that they never came close to delivering on. That’s not a strike against Park, though. Extremely charismatic and a good old man brawler. A fat skeleton. Will always be the Chairman of WCW.

Jay White
Finished 21st in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread
Eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by Pete Dunne

For WH-128 ’17, Jay White was a young lion working RevPro and RoH for experience. Now, White’s a former IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, the undisputed leader of Bullet Club, and one of the most hated heels in the world. He has very cerebral matches centering around creative counters to finishers. He’s going to be a key part of New Japan’s future for years.

Matt Riddle
Eliminated in Round 3 of 2017 WH-128 by Kenny Omega

Matt Riddle continues to climb the ranks. After tearing up the indies and EVOLVE, Riddle debuted in NXT earlier this year and has put on great match after great match. He’s already racked up five matches over **** this year, including a great one with Adam Cole on the third episode of NXT. He’s also very charismatic and should be a superstar once WWE gives him the platform he deserves.

Jon Moxley
Finished 6th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread
Eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by Kento Miyahara
Eliminated in Round 4 in 2015 by Finn Balor
Eliminated in Round 3 in 2013 by Prince Devitt
Eliminated in Round 2 in 2011 by Akira Tozawa

Few wrestlers have been as revitalized by leaving the WWE as Moxley. When he left WWE, he was an unmotivated wrestler stuck doing Vince McMahon’s weird idea of comedy. Now, he’s one of the hottest wrestlers in the world, having star making performances in the G1 Climax. He’s started a high stakes feud with Kenny Omega that may produce the most anticipated matches in the U.S. this year.

Flamita
Did not appear in 2017 WH-128

Flamita is one of the most overlooked luchadors active right now. While he primarily works in AAA and Dragon Gate, he has appeared in more than 20 promotions this year. His career highlight has to be his work in the trios match from PWG Sixteen that Dave Meltzer gave five stars. Just 24, he should be a star somewhere in the future.

Toru Yano
Finished 29th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread
Did not appear in 2017 WH-128

The Sublime Master Thief consistently steals everyone’s hearts. Bringing a needed change of pace to every New Japan card he’s on with his comedic stylings, Toru is basically the Bugs Bunny of NJPW. His part of the G1 every year is one of the most unique every year.

Naomichi Marufuji
Did not appear in 2017 WH-128

Marufuji is still a stalwart of NOAH, where he’s been a three-time GHC Heavyweight Champion. While he hasn’t held gold this year, he’s had noteworthy matches with the likes of Kotaro Suzuki, Takashi Sugiura, Go Shiozaki, and Kaito Kiyomiya.

Tetsuya Naito
Finished 13th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread
Eliminated in semi-finals of 2017 WH-128 by Kazuchika Okada
Eliminated in Round 1 in 2015 by Adam Cole

Naito’s booking is one of the more interesting aspects of New Japan. Extremely talented in the ring and very charismatic, he leads the popular Los Ingobernables de Japon stable, but he’s never really been given the opportunity to top the card before adopting his sleazier persona. He was the long running Intercontinental champion who started all of the talk of combining that belt with the IWGP World title, but then he recently lost it to Jay White. Even if Gedo won’t go all in on him, he’s still one of the best in the world.

LuFisto
Did not appear in 2017 WH-128

LuFisto has long been one of the top women on the independent scene, breaking ground by partaking in intergender hardcore matches. She’s overcome a stroke and cervical cancer to continue her career. After initially announcing her retirement this year, she won the wXw Femme Fatales tournament and announced she was going to continue her career.

Best Friends, Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta
Chuck Taylor finished 22rd in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread
Trent Beretta did not receive a vote in the Favorite Active Wrestlers Thread
Taylor: Eliminated in Round 2 of 2017 WH-128 by John Cena
Trent: did not appear in the 2017 WH-128

Chuck & Trent have largely spent most of the past two years as tag team specialists, with great runs in PWG, RoH, New Japan, and now AEW. Charismatic and great workers, they rank among the best teams in the sport and they’ve been able to take their real world friendship into the central part of their gimmick. They should be among the top teams in AEW for years to come.

Joey Janela
Eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by Adam Cole

The Bad Boy of pro wrestling, Janela is one of the most unique talents in the game right now. He’s the namesake of a series of oddball “Spring Break” events and associated Lost in New York and Escape from L.A. shows, which feature everything from Dan Severn to death matches to Kikutaro to the family feud of Invisible Man vs. Invisible Stan. Even beyond that, Janela is a talent with a diversity of skills. He made his name doing crazy death matches, but he also had a great hour-long iron man match with David Starr at Beyond’s 2019 Americana show. Few indie wrestlers have been able to build a following like Janela, and his presence on AEW could provide an X-factor for their first year of existence.

Your ballot:

Kota Ibushi vs. Jake Atlas
Mayu Iwatani vs. Tessa Blanchard
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. LA Park
Jay White vs. Matt Riddle
Jon Moxley vs. Flamita
Toru Yano vs. Naomichi Marufuji
Tetsuya Naito vs. LuFisto
Best Friends vs. Joey Janela

Voting closes at 7 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, or whenever I get in front of a computer after that.
