Literally the only person who has even mentioned the Trump impeachment in my personal life is a guy I know who listens to Freakonomics, is obsessed with sports statistics, and always trying to get me to read some Stephen Pinker book.

also feeding into the trump-news-industrial-complex is insanely toxic and should be avoided at all costs. that goes for the trump thread here as well

i don't think the trump thread covers any trump news, it's all just yelling and cartoon mice and power rangers gifs. it's some kinda weird memetic immunity whereby through yelling TRMUP a bunch of times you can trick the part of your brain that thinks it needs to pay attention to politics to think that's what's happening

Speaking of content, I've decided on a topic for a first show: Shihab Al'Din Ahmad Ibn Budayr, the "Barber of Damascus".
So hopefully that will be out in the wilds in a couple weeks.

it is deeply funny that the guys who spent hours of audio time dunking on spirit cooking and bildeberg rituals enjoy watching this booj garbage lol

The transcendent moment, in my opinion, is her reading, lilted out in her husky voice, of three lines from a poem that reduced the audience to screams: “I would rather die than work / I would rather die than work / I would rather die than work.” The climax occurs shortly thereafter: a “cake sitting” by performance artist Lindsay Dye, who twerks rhythmically on a “vajazzled cake” she baked with her own hands, singing along to Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights.” The audience goes wild, singing and throwing dollar bills, which mix in with the frosting as she rubs cake all over her haunches.

i had just started hooking up with this chick once who made me go to a slam poetry reading at a bar

it was an even mix of emotional hairy women and white guys trying to freestyle rap. this was southern louisiana so the latter dropped the n bomb a few times

though the funniest part was a guy who got up and started talking about using american cheese slices as lube (the women all booed him the entire time)

While I'm assembling assets for my idiot vanity project, are there any topics people would like covered regarding my podcast? I'd rather not blow my load early on subjects I'm most passionate about, and I'd also rather not become a "reads wikipedia article" type podcast, and deep dives take time for research into primary sources and mailing time to have stuff delivered, read, and something resembling an entertaining narrative teased out. Assuming I even have the talent for the last one.
While my own focus is MENA/Central Asia, I wouldn't be adverse to doing stories from elsewhere, though thematically I'd probably keep Western Europe and Rome epidodes rare if I keep the podcast going.
