I liked Berserk at first but after a while all the constant terrible poo poo in it (like literally nothing happy *ever* happens to the protagonist, and what I hear about the latest chapters isn't any different!) got real old, real fast, and I dropped it. Seems I made the right choice

Have permas become more common lately? I feel like I see them more than I did when I was lurking/just regged. That's not a bad thing, just don't know if it's been going on for a while and I'm just noticing it, or if it's because the new mods are way more willing to dish them out.

The whole subforum should go. Anything posted in there that is not entirely for creeps and perverts should be able to stand on its own in any of the other media forums. It feels like there's some kind of massive pedo-drama in that forum once a year. Just flush it.

Isn't this the third form of having purge ADTRW? The original purge created 4chan. The second purge was late 2000s? A bunch of posters started getting real uppity and pushing the lines on the child porn and so the hammer had to drop again. Now the culling has taken only a handful, down from the usual 20-30. Progress?

They've been a little keener to permaban people just for being serial terrible posters, but that was before FaU stepped down. Smythe said in the thread about this creepy manga thing that he personally prefers regular bans. Frankly there's little difference between the two.

It's the current trend, yeah, kind of like how Hollywood put out a billion zombie themed movies a few years ago. It's almost never done in an interesting fashion or if it does start out interesting, it quickly peters out into obvious one-handed writing about the Mary-Sue protagonist who can do no wrong and is always correct forever. I suddenly want to see an anime adaption of Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth books.

The Western equivalent is "Lit RPG" and my Kindle recommendations were flooded with them a year or so ago because I already like trash fantasy and sci-fi and Amazon assumed that I had absolutely no standards.

(because Berserk is weirdly loving good for how bonkers hosed up it gets, to the extent that i'd literally, unironically call it a contender for the greatest comic ever drawn. it's basically a 40-volume-and-counting death metal album cover about the angriest motherfucker of all time using a sword the size of a tree to turn hordes of demons and people into splats of red goo, and it's also a gorgeously-drawn exploration of the human condition following a guy struggling desperately to maintain his humanity in the face of overwhelming trauma and violence, and the fact that it manages to successfully achieve both of these things at once will always be absolutely loving incredible to me. if you can handle all the grody poo poo in it, it is absolutely worth a read, even if this other poo poo Miura's doing is gross.)
