Seems like English media is picking up on referring to the indigenous peoples as "coca leaf growers" (like not as something they do, but as their basic identification), get ready for some racist imperialist drug war framings.

Yeah and people have been growing & chewing coca in the Andes for centuries. It's about as transgressive as drinking coffee.

you don't even need to discredit the OAS findings to show that the military coup is bad and that it is a military coup

the US has "sketchy" and "fraudulent" elections all the time and we don't decide a military coup is justified as a response

then there's the fact all of the people in line of succession resigned until it finally hit an opposition party politician, this politician is making decisions without a quorum, and the military and police are literally denying morales' party from entering the parliamentary building

and now the police and military are openly killing and firing on protestors

also morales got couped when he suggested to rerun the elections b/c he was confident he would win

none of this would be acceptable behavior if such events transpired in the US even under a fraudulent election narrative

if your friend has brainworms and only believes mainstream news sources, the BBC did invite on a CEPR guy to explain that the electoral fraud narrative is bullshit

Lemme find and quote a previous post:

I didn't want to post this because I frankly don't give a gently caress about the allegations and I don't want to give them credence, but a Univ. of Michigan professor ran a model and concluded that if all the alleged fraudulent votes were given to the opposition instead of Evo, he still would've won by over 10%:

Also, very simply:

All the findings of the OAS are extremely concern-trolly and not actual grounds for a recount and definitely not worthy of a loving fascist coup.

there's also a narrative that morales was some type of strongarm dictator or w/e that paralyzes the lib brain. if you get the lib to think long and hard enough, you might be able to convince them that a strongarm dictator would not be so easily forced out of the country into exile with basically no dissension or conflict from the military or police. he probably would not also have such modest living quarters lol

On Thursday, Morales said in Mexico that while he had submitted his resignation, it was never accepted by Congress.

Morales said he left becausethe army chief had suggested he leave, as well as threats of violence against his close collaborators. Áñez has dismissed the explanation.

Supporters of Bolivia’s first indigenous president have been staging their own disruptive protests since he was ousted, setting up blockades that forced closure of schools and caused shortages of gasoline in the capital. Long lines formed outside some petrol stations in La Paz after blockades in the nearby city of El Alto, a major distribution point for fuel.

It's pointless to point this out because, in these peoples' minds, even an ounce of "sketchiness" (or, hell, even "the existence of an opposition") is enough to insert "nuance" into the situation and make it one where they don't feel comfortable taking a moral stance.

The recent Citations Needed newsbrief on the Bolivia situation was making the point that, in the eyes of these people, something can only be a coup if the coup is happening to a government with literally 100% of the population's support, because the mere existence of an opposition makes it a situation where there was "popular unrest and opposition to the administration" (and that's ignoring things like "the class and racial make-up of the opposition").

Because of her fame and how much the right hates her, AOC gets targeted pretty often by bad faith actors who pretend to be "minority activists" but in reality are horrible reactionaries

I wouldn't be surprised if they misrepresented or outright lied about what their desire for Bolivia was in order to take a photo with her, I also wouldn't be surprised if they just took a photo of her with the Bolivian flag and then made up some bullshit afterwards
