I hope Briscoe is good at chassis setup, that's really where the team was lacking since Ricky left. Glad to see some ex-ford drivers finding their feet. Big Dix Energy for the enduros and Kobayashi for the 24 is a strong lineup.

That C3 was a bridge too far even for him. Shame to loose a manufacturer, but they have been propper poo poo the last few years. This has been some silly season, and it ain't over yet.

Feels Villeneuve posted:there was like a weird three year period where rallycross was the future of motorsport because it was short and millennials like short things or something IDK I legit think rallycross is a better spectator sport because of the shorter track. From a single seat you can watch all the action. With most motorsports you pick one corner and watch the rest on TV, if you even have that option. Also, as we've seen in F1 time and again, races can be real snoozefests. Having a tournament of like 30 heats means even if a race sucks, you grab a beer, and then in 5 minutes there's another race, and another race. I think the format is fantastic. But ARX just didn't get enough popularity :/ people in America only care about NASCAR

I watched rallycross for a bit and like 95% of races I saw were decided on the start. I think fundamentally it's only good as an amateur sport with everyone driving old Ford Escorts or some poo poo.

The group B era seems neat, and I've watched some amateur level stuff that's been amazing, but modern RX just feels a bit clinical to me?

This coming weekend is the DTM x Super GT 'Dream Race' from Fuji Speedway. There'll be races both Saturday and Sunday, run as sprints with tire changes but no fuel filling during the race. No driver changes either. Not sure who's broadcasting but I'm sure it'll pop up online at the time. Teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqSLKLIzQHI

I would laugh a lot if the Saudis paid shitloads to get a FE race and it follows the usual pattern of the first race of the season being shite. I completely missed the fact the first race was on a Friday afternoon, spoiled it for myself. What a great way to kill momentum for your series. Anyway, race 1 was meh, good winner. Race two was more entertaining with the usual Formula E fun. Next race is, 18 January? I think this is because Hong Kong was canned. At least the next race is Chile where nothing of note is happening

Yeah it's the usual way too long gap between opening weekend and 2nd weekend because they insist on starting the season in November. This race was really good for Jack and Dario banter as well, especially Dario going off about drivers not even following the most basic rules like "don't overtake behind the safety car" and "park in the right grid spot". Combine that stuff with the race director calling the safety car in while there was still a crane on the track and yeah this was full Formula E clownshoes.

Frond posted:Despite the advantage the DTM cars should have had the Super GT cars had the measure of them come race time. yeah, thinking about it, the Super GT teams test shitloads at Fuji so they'll have the setup nailed on, with the only variable being 'how the tires perform' and 'how the tires perform in this weather.' the DTM teams won't have that setup info, and most of the drivers won't have driven many laps at Fuji, so it's not much of a shock. Unsurprising that Loic Duval is one of the DTM drivers that did the best, considering he'd spent plenty of time at Fuji in the past.

I was pleasantly surprised that the cars in different series were able to mix it up that much. The Super GT cars did seem to have a significant power advantage though that made the DTM cars sitting ducks on the long front straight.

The front engined NSX is strange but I think it must be done for ease of balance with DTM. Ever since the original NSX appeared it’s had to be nerfed considerably in order to balance it against the front engined cars.

So the Super GT champions (Team LeMans) are withdrawing from GT500 as they lost their support from Toyota. This also effects their Super Formula team as well, they are gone come 2020. I wonder what happened.
