That was a good episode. Veidt was sent somewhere else, and though I think we're supposed to believe it was Dr. Manhattan, it's likely Trieu.

Looking Glass isn't gonna get killed. I think him going back to get the alarm is a sign he's still on the fence. And him knowing the truth has way too much potential to kill him off.

True. And him going back for the alarm may be what saves him, because he’ll likely go over to the bunker and the 7K guys are in the house.

It would certainly mirror (Pun intended) how him going into the funhouse seemed to save him in the opening.

Good episode, good show.

For what it's worth, neither was Jeremy Iron's casting announced as him playing Veidt, and he spent multiple episodes being credited as Lord Of The Manor.

So the original argument about the pointless withholding of information remains true, made all the more egregious for it being entirely obvious who he was playing.

I shared an article about him being Veidt on social media when he was announced as being in the show, so it was definitely publicized. I never knew otherwise, myself, which is why my only question was possible misdirection.

I think the fact that the guy we've been told and shown can spot lies would have known if it was a fake or not.

One minor quibble I had with this ep is them cutting to a previous scene when a character references something from the past. They did it on I think like three different occasions. I get it if it's stuff that happened in previous episodes but they were from the same episode. Could trust the audience a bit more there. Otherwise very entertaining episode.

This show is, much like the comic, an absolutely fantastic examination of trauma.

Lindelof loves broken people and hes so god drat good at exploring them with complexity and empathy.

Episode loving owned and this show is a gem. That opening was a total treat.

Glass has/had a really good reason for wearing the mask all the time, I thought it was going to be something more superstitious

Turns out, it might has well been lol

Next ep looks incredible

Did anyone else notice another reference to Dr Manhattan trying to blend in? Panda told Scare that.hooded justice is Manhattan lol I dunno what this show is doing to me. Is it false misleading info or a hint or something

I guess.my previous realization that the lettuce truck was the 50 Cal truck may be wrong?

This also really bugged me, we flashed back to his silver lined hat, flashed back to him on 11/2, and one other time I’m forgetting. I hate when they do this poo poo.

That said, still the best episode so far.

Great episode. Agreed that the quick flashback cuts were bad and just there for dummies who aren't paying attention. Almost wish that were the opener instead of so far in. Gonna need that pull out to the squid in clip form for sure.

Also, Viedt made a video for Redford in the future so he knew he wasn't going to be around. He probably hosed with interdimensional tech trying to follow Manhattan into the unknown, found the place where he tried making some life of his own before getting bored and peacing out, then got stuck there.

The video was meant for President Redford in 1992, and Veidt in the show has only been missing for 7 years in current 2019 tho.

Not saying he didn’t have plans to gently caress off to another planet or whatever, but I think it’s indicated he was around until ~2012

I hate same-episode flashbacks, and as good as this episode was they pulled me out of it every time. (The scene with his ex-wife was also a little rough - the music cue was too on the nose, and the whole thing felt way more arch than the rest of the show.)

Otherwise, though, holy poo poo.

SpiderHyphenMan posted:

I think it's funny that both the unproduced screenplay and the Snyder version cut the Squid because the studio believed it would be a step too far for the audience. The TV show meanwhile busts it out, unabridged, in a cold open halfway through the season...and then proceeds to use the rest of the episode to introduce much crazier story developments and even more manic imagery (Memories in pill form; everything related to Veidt's trip.)

All of the background on HJ being gay is 2nd hand from "Under the Hood" and Before Watchmen. IIRC its never really said where that came from other than Sally Jupiters manager saying he set them up to cover it up. Someone correct me if Im wrong though.

Also, a thought. When Snyder's movie came out, Gibbons made new comic panels of the film's ending that appeared in the art of book. It was pretty much perfect in recapturing the visuals of the original. It'd be amazing if we got some comic adaptation of the show, as unlikely and cost-prohibitive as that'd be.

The flash backs aren't bad editing, they're because the episode is focused on a character with PTSD who is experiencing flashbacks.
