I've watched all of Man in the High Castle and I'm halfway through the last season but yeah the show gives me major  vibes because it sure seems like someone with a lot of money is having the time of their lives turning an imagined super-Nazi-fied America into a reality and the rest of the show is not really up to par with the amount of effort put into their Nazi production designs.

The first season or two do a really good job of showing how much it'd suck living under oppressive occupation by imperial Japan so it's not even like they weren't willing or capable. idk, there's a hundred different ways you could depict what's actually bad about living in Nazi America, even if you're dedicated to showing a normalized Nazi America post-war, but the show spends an insane amount of time showing OGF Smith and his family in an idyllic American existence, festooned with Swastikas, and occasionally they remember to be like "oh right they also still don't like jews and minorities*". Then the thing they think is going to be a real WOW! THIS IS BAD is the idea that one day John Smith has to abide by The Reichs eugenics laws he's probably enforced on thousands of people already, and he very nearly gets away with not even doing that anyway. And also he's still a nazi afterwards anyway so how bad could it be, really? lmfao. It's really irresponsible, especially considering the moment in American history we're in right now and purportedly how many people are watching it. *which, you may note, is probably not that big of a dealbreaker to the kind of person watching Leave it To Beaver: Hitler edition and getting a big kick out of it.

I'll give the show the benefit of the doubt and assume they're doing that on accident, but they're doing it for about 90% of OGF Smiths scenes involving his home life.

The shows entire depiction of Nazis in America works on the assumption that the viewer is constantly thinking "Yes, but they are still the bad guys, because they are Nazis", and then plays around with just how great they can make life look, and how much they can make you sympathize with OGF Smith while you're still thinking "And he's still the bad guy, wow". Which is a fine trick for people who aren't dumb as poo poo and know that Nazis are bad. but like lol, that entire formula breaks down and becomes something very very harmful and irresponsible when the person watching isn't assuming that he's bad and I'd like to know what dumb poo poo at Amazon isn't realizing that they're beaming this into the brains of a lot of people who do not immediately assume OGF Smith and Nazi America are really the bad guys.

I am so burned out from actual nazis and oppression that the only way I could actually watch the man in the high castle was if every episode just had thousands of nazis getting machine gunned down by resistance fighters. Same with The Handmaids Tale, if someone told me that Elisabeth Moss took a flame thrower to the fundamentalists I would be all over it.
