How are his money problems possibly looking dire when he has been cashing in on every aspect of the Presidency and literally having foreign government pay him for preferential diplomatic and economic treatment?

No, really. Trump was the go to guy for a lot of people to launder money. Now that he's high profile, why would anyone go to him to make their illegal money seem legal? You don't go to the president of the United States to launder your money. You go to someone who literally isn't one of the highest profile people on the face of the planet. Someone running a reality TV show is quaint and people could have a chuckle that Trump was laundering their cash while pretending to be a good businessman instead of a bumbling moron who wasn't prosecuted solely because our system basically doesn't pursue and prosecute white collar crime. It's defacto legal, so why not if you suck as a businessman?

My personal guess is that his businesses never really made a ton of money or were constantly in the red. His properties are trash because his sense of aesthetics are trash. Most likely his only talent was appearing like he was a successful businessman through reality television, which reinforced his brand. That branding got him the presidency but lost him his ability to launder money.

Trump's actual cash flow is being heavily restricted and he's under surveillance which prevents him from running his usual grift or most of his normally illegal grifts. His actual properties never made him much money, if anything, but his money had to have a source.

You assume that his properties make money. I don't assume this and they certainly make way less now. His brand is poisoned and his properties weren't very good to begin with. He's pretty restricted to making legal if ethically dubious money because his smaller grifts attract criticism and suspicion.

Foreign governments will pay him, but Trump isn't a particularly talented grifter. The real money is in influence while Trump thinks that shaking people down is where the money is. He was rich, but his methods of making money were still small time in his thinking.

That's what makes the possibility of him flipping so enticing.

Assuming Trump loses in 2020, he'd be susceptible to these charges when a real AG gets in, right? Given how unlikely Trump winning seems to be right now, it does seem to place pressure on him to just flip the table and try to get immunity.

But really, even if Trump lost and Sondland was worried about going to jail, I mean... He's got money. I imagine it would not hard to move to a fancy city in a country with no extradition and just live there until it's been too long to charge him, or if charges are actually filed while he's on the lamb... Then I guess he stays there forever, unless we stop giving a poo poo and the charges are dropped.

I mean... Yeah, I wanna believe he'll just blow this open and just fully cooperate. But that's just completely unrealistic, right? He's not legally bulletproof, but it's not like the law can reach him if he doesn't want it to... So why risk cooperating and admitting to crimes and maybe getting off for most of them when you can, at any time, just decide to gently caress-off and accept no punishment beyond potentially temporary exile to a (likely metropolitan) international legal haven?

EDIT: to be clear, I'm talking about Sondland.

Despite all the talk about leaving the country if we dare tax them, rich people quite like being in the US. There's lots of fun rich person stuff here, and strong protections for your money. They also chafe at the idea of there being any restrictions on their ability to travel, and avoiding countries that have extradition treaties with the US or might want to curry favor with the US by making an exception for a high profile wanted person is actually quite restrictive.

This is a great point and *really* makes sense when you see the lengths he goes to to hide his tax returns. I'm interested in this IRS whistleblower since the story seems to be political appointees interfering in the automatic audits of the presidents returns. To me this indicates he's still trying to crime as president (probably facilitated by Rudy) but doesn't realize the scrutiny he's under.

He's been leveraged to the eyeballs essentially his whole career. He's always been liquid poor but asset rich due to this. The only reason he was able to put up any structures anywhere after he lost what would become Riverside South in Manhattan was due to foreign nationals using his developments as embezzlement conduits. It was around that time that he basically became excommunicado from the banking industry due to how many people he had hosed over and just how bad he was at skipping out on obligations.

Rape allegations are difficult to prove in the first place, much nine years later. It is surely disappointing for the victim, as Assange is escaping justice despite effectively confessing.

Hey my friend, maybe instead of couching it in the word "fat" you could use less hurtful words? Like, we all know that we are overweight and having it shouted at us is really discouraging more than anything else. Like, I remember when I was at my heaviest and I was at the gym working on myself and I overheard someone talking about how fat I was and it just deflated my motivation and enthusiasm for getting better. Like, we could all stand to be just a little kinder in how we talk to each other. Life is hard enough, let's not make people feel bad about themselves. If you are coming from a place where you are saying that being overweight is not healthy, you are factually correct. We know we are not healthy, but what people who are overweight need is some encouragement, not a reminder of their situation that stares at them in every bathroom, fitting room, and rearview mirror. I mean, getting up and going to the bathroom alone is often an exercise of emotional torture because we actually avoid looking in the mirror because we just don't want to see our bodies. That is a special hell that follows us everywhere and is so goddamn demoralizing. It took a lot of therapy to actually get me to love my body even when I lost weight and it never actually leaves you. So that is why you get so much pushback. It just doesn't help to say things like that. It only hurts and prevents people from making progress on their journey.

I missed yesterday's fun but I caught up on most of it. Here's the thing: I saw how it started. It was not this nuanced, it just wasn't. It started with a literal "lol look at that fatty behind Nunes God lose some weight get this off my TV" and etc. That set a tone. That's also nothing new in these forums, SA has a long, long history with fat hate. Just seems to my eyes, being a gay man and also a fat man, that for some, fatness existing at all really seems to get under their skin in a visceral way. To my eyes it doesn't seem all that different than people who get frothingly angry over gays or trans people even existing among them in the world, and by that I mean the behavior I see with folks that love to post insults and throw around names. Just going to put that out there as food for thought (get it???) and leave it there.
