Apologies for skipping the graphics this time; I’m behind. I’ll try to pick that up for the next round. Special formatting request: Please only list the name of the person you are voting for from each match-up. This will be easier for me to count than bolding names from match-ups. I can work around this if necessary, but if you can vote by just listing the name of your choice, that would be great. You can abstain from votes. You are not required to list that vote as ‘abstain,’ you just need to skip it. Daniel Bryan Finished 3rd in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Won ultra-finals of 2017 WH-128 Bryan wasn’t even wrestling when the last WH-128 was held. It seemed impossible for him to come back, but he was able to do so early 2018. Since then, he’s had a largely great series of matches with AJ Styles and has reminded everyone that he’s just not a great wrestler, but charismatic and great on interviews. Bryan should still be one of the best wrestlers as long as his health allows. Timothy Thatcher Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Thatcher has started to break out in the past couple of years, as his indie performances have gotten rave reviews. This year’s he’s received praise for great matches with Davey Boy Smith Jr., Yuki Ishikawa, Chris Dickinson, Daniel Makabe, and Hideki Suzuki, and those matches each took place in a different promotion. In the past week or so, Twitter was overrun with other wrestlers praising him both for his in-ring skills and his kindness out of the ring. Darby Allin Finished 32nd in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Allin wasn’t even on the WH-128 radar in 2017, but he’s put himself on the map by working all over the world in the indies and eventually putting on star making performances in EVOLVE, PWG, and AEW. His Coffin Drop finisher is one of the most shocking high flying moves in the world. Allin also seems to thrive off of ridiculous spots, making every match he’s in completely unpredictable. The Young Bucks, Matt & Nick Jackson Matt: eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by Scott Dawson Nick: eliminated in Round 2 by Kento Miyahara As a central part of the launch of AEW, The Young Bucks are on the hunt for their sixth straight WON Tag Team of the Year. They will be hurt by largely missing the first half of the year, but they’re making up for it as best as they can, with every high profile match they’ve had this year as a tag team receiving at least four stars from Meltzer (until the AEW Dynamite debut). They’ll continue to be one of the best teams in the world going forward. Orange Cassidy Finished 16th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Still the chilliest motherfucker on the planet. Jungle Boy Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Jungle Boy has largely been working solo on the indies, though he’s being slotted in AEW as half of the Jurassic Express. He’s talented regardless of his role, with seemingly endless charisma and an innate ability to generate sympathy. He’s also a very promising worker, with many well received matches in PWG, AEW and GCW, including a ****1/2 singles match against Jake Atlas. It’d be shocking if he’s not a future superstar. Taichi Finished 19th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Taichi was criticized for not maximizing his talents. He always seemed to leave something on the table. That seems to have changed in 2019. His act has improved with the addition of a Phantom of the Opera-esque mask and “singing” portion, along with his adorably evil valet, Mako Abe. Add in that the past two years have seen him put on ****+ matches with Ospreay, Takagi, and Ishii, and Taichi has entered another level. Jacob Fatu Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Fatu is considered one of the top prospects in U.S. wrestling. Just seven years into his career, MLW has bet big on him, making him the leader of the Contra Unit heel group and giving him their world championship. He’s been praised for his combination of size and agility. Minoru Suzuki Finished 8th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Eliminated in quarter finals of 2017 WH-128 by Kento Miyahara Eliminated in Round 4 in 2015 by Shinsuke Nakamura Eliminated in The Quarter-Finals in 2013 by Hiroshi Tanahashi Still the scariest motherfucker on the planet. Momo Watanabe Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 The protegé of Io Shirai took full advantage of the departure of her mentor in 2018 to establish herself as the face of Stardom. Fresh out of high school, Momo took the Wonder of Stardom Championship and leadership of Queen's Quest and embarked upon an almost year-long title run proving herself as one of the most talented wrestlers in the world today in fantastic matches with the likes of Jungle Kyona, Tam Nakano, Jamie Hayter and Mayu Iwatani. Despite losing the title to Arisa Hoshiki, Momo has continued to show her dominance in the Stardom ring. Thanks to George W Bushi for his help with this profile! Luchasaurus Finished 27th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Luchasaurus has gone from largely unknown to a cult favorite in a short period of time. He combines a great character with size, athleticism, and charisma. His team with Jungle Boy in AEW has shown signs of becoming one of the hottest acts in the industry. Tommaso Ciampa Eliminated in Round 2 of 2017 WH-128 by Tomohiro Ishii Eliminated in Round 1 in 2015 by Dolph Ziggler Ciampa was able to return from neck surgery early on last week’s NXT show, and hopefully he hasn’t come back too soon. Ciampa and Gargano had a great feud in 2018 with an amazing trio of matches. Ciampa also had great matches with Velveteen Dream in ’18 and, extending into January ’19, Aleister Black. And then the weird tag team with Gargano happened. A great team, but a weird storyline turn considering what the previous two years had been. With his return from injury, let’s hope that he can return to his Goldie-obsessed character. Shingo Takagi Finished 11th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Shingo used the 2019 G1 to put on a masterclass in BEEF, having tremendous matches every night. His matches with Ospreay, Naito, Ishii, and Goto are among the very best of 2019. Promoted from the junior division, Shingo should continue to climb the ranks of New Japan into the future. Shota Umino Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Umino is in the process of graduating from young lion status. He’s become a cult favorite already thanks to his bizarre adoption by Jon Moxley. He’s had very good singles matches with Hiroshi Tanahashi & Zack Sabre Jr. this year. Kairi Sane Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Sane had a great 2018, winning the NXT Women’s Championship from Baszler in a solid series of matches. She’s since been promoted to the main roster, where she’s in a tag team with Asuka. Despite their copious talents, Sane has not been appearing on television regularly recently. Juice Robinson Eliminated in Round 2 of 2017 WH-128 by Hiromu Takahashi Juice’s career rejuventation continues in New Japan. He’s become a cult favorite there and is one of the highlights of their midcard. He has two reigns with the United States championship under his belt, and had very good matches with Jon Moxley, Jay White, and Tomohiro Ishii during the G1. He has an amazing amount of charisma and has a good argument to be the best promo in wrestling today. Your ballot: Daniel Bryan vs. Timothy Thatcher Darby Allin vs. The Young Bucks Orange Cassidy vs. Jungle Boy Taichi vs. Jacob Fatu Minoru Suzuki vs. Momo Watanabe Luchasaurus vs. Tommaso Ciampa Shingo Takagi vs. Shota Umino Kairi Sane vs. Juice Robinson Voting closes at 7 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, or whenever I get in front of a computer after that.
