I decided to video games instead of watch the QT thing and reading this thread immediately made me regret my decision. So I've got some booze in and I'm catcing up. Corbs was strong and Sturgeon is as solid as expected. Looking forward to the imminent monstering

Looks like we found out why Jo Swinson is so vehemently anti-squirrel She's a literal super villainess.

Oh my God Swinson spent 90% of her time apologising for her voting record, telling the audience she wouldn’t be able to convince them, and getting completely blindsided by Remainers who don’t want to unilaterally revoke Brexit. Best half hour of telly I’ve seen all year. Those Remainers in the audience are an absolute vindication of Labour’s Brexit strategy and exactly why Labour were smart to avoid going full-throated remain.

Corbyn staying neutral is a tactic straight out of the 2017 campaign, in that commentators and the press will absolutely ignite with fury but it's a position that might well seem reasonable to the public. So the more they rage, the more publicity they give him and the less reasonably their ire seems.

I would've asked Corbyn how tough he is.

I'm pages behind because I got in half an hour or so ago and the reactions to the debate made me immediately want to watch the Jo Swinson section. It was totally, totally worth it. I mean, in a way it's bad because we probably need the Lib Dems to take some tory votes, but it was extremely cathartic viewing. I think it's by far the best approach anyway, corbyn should be neutral, the backbenchers should have a free vote, cabinet perhaps should adopt neutrality as well though might be a stretch. Pushing through brexit or revoking it is likely to cause or worsen an already massive split, a labour soft brexit and a second referendum and massive domestic investment are really the only suggestion I think comes close to trying to resolve the problem.

From the initial stuff in the spin room/Newsnight it seems fairly defensible too. If they bang on about it not being 'leadership' you talk about how real leadership tries to unite the country. If they say how is it credible to negotiate a deal and then not support it, explain that both Remain and Soft Brexit are perfectly acceptable outcomes for the EU so they have no incentive to try and gently caress things up.

the levels of "you're not worth bothering with, gently caress you" the tories are showing to the media is not a great omen for how they'll deal with press scrutiny, and scrutiny of any kind at all, if they win the election. I hope people who aren't news geeks can see that and won't let them get away with it

Yes, this is why I wanted him to push it in the first debate, it does have responses to most attack lines and while they won't work on people who don't want to listen, they are perfectly good answers. Brexit started because of a referendum, and has consitently been put as a popular demand whether politicians like it or not, but directly because the conservatives didn't plan to do it and didn't expect it to win, we've had three years of pissing about. Put a deal together, put it up for public and parliamentary scrutiny, and then do another referendum to confirm it, and be prepared to implement either outcome. Neutrality and willingness to do either is entirely appropriate in this instance and a direct opposition to cameron's idiocy.

I actually feel like things are going worse for the Tories in this election than in 2017. And we haven't even seen their manifesto yet, in which they will inevitably gently caress something up.
