Oh yeah get a chart of Lancaster sound or something that’ll gently caress them right up. But seriously, anything US in the Great Lakes is good. Weird rear end projections, scales in statute miles, channel depth tables, just a load of gently caress you. The CHS 13XX are river charts, they’re ok for what they are if a bit annoying. Hard to get lost on them though.

Oh hey I’ll have to look it up when I get home but the North East coast of Newfoundland (around Springdale or Good Year Cove) is Not Charted to Modern Standard and the chart is still some black and white poo poo. Some of the Caribbeans around the Bahamas / Windward have some weird rear end age of sail notations on them too.

Eddie Gallagher on TV this morning saying how the majority of the SEAL community is supportive of this decision and how RADM Green is insubordinate. He is blatantly lying because most of the SEAL officers and specops community people I know are against Gallagher and think he has dishonored the community.

NOAA has a five year plan to cease all paper and raster chart production. I wonder if that includes the third party print on demand.

# ? Nov 26, 2019 13:13 |

^ Yeah. I know a lot of people that are upset about NOAA stopping paper chart production. I understand why they want to do it, but I think it's stupid. Sure a lot of it is "what if" scenarios, but having a paper chart on hand just is incredibly useful. My reservation for the Yokosuka Navy Lodge got canceled/never transferred correctly, so I'm more than likely not going to be going to Japan now. Some event must be going on in the Yokosuka area too because the nearest reservation I can find for my dates is in South Yokohama. I'm still on the waiting list, but I doubt that I'm going to be getting an email by tomorrow saying that I have a room. I think that there's a higher power trying to tell me to not go there again since this is now the 3rd time I've tried to go to Japan for something and it's either been canceled or someone else got to go instead. However, not being religious I just prefer to ignore the signs.

Spencer was bucking Trump passively during his entire tenure and this Gallagher business was just the straw that broke the camel's back. When RADM Montgomery was nominated to be USAID Director by Trump, Spencer stopped that with a public censure of the Admiral. Later, Spencer also said he would resign if the engineering problems on the USS Gerald R. Ford were not fixed by delivery because Trump kept using it as a prop to poo poo on the Navy. Retired Reserve Admiral, USNA grad, former P3 pilot, healthcare lobbyist, and current ambassador to Norway Kenneth Braithwaite has been nominated to be SECNAV. Just like Sondland, he is a Trump donor but seems more qualified than most others.

Was he actually a P3 pilot? All I know is quote:Braithwaite was commissioned as a U.S. Navy ensign in 1984.[1] He became a naval aviator in April 1986 and was assigned to fly anti-submarine patrol missions.[8] In April 1988 he was reassigned to public affairs duties.[8]

Two years of flight training and winging in 1986. Either finish his initial JO sea tour and lat transfer to PAO. Just because he was selected for PAO doesn't mean he left the squadron right away. Usually redesignation admin boards happen on a routine basis and then members go to their new community tours at the end of their normal PRD. Bottom line, his service was legit. He is very savvy and had a successful Reserve career. In some ways making reserve admiral is just as hard, if not harder for different reasons, than making active duty admiral.
