PKD is great because his stories always start off alluding to a bunch of weird fun ideas and then, instead of blandly exploring them like in an asimov or whatever, they jsut immediately go off the rails into insanity instead

This was true where I grew up in NC. The specific area I'm thinking of has blown up into fancy retail in the last 20yrs so most of the black ones are probably gone now When I meet a new white person and describe generally where I live, most ppl ask "is that closer to the white Food Lion or the Mexican Food Lion," the latter has 2 aisles of international selections. They're maybe 1.5 miles apart and the next one isn't for 15 miles in any direction.
