... why was that a penalty? I don't get it. It's legal to hit receivers when the QB leaves the pocket.

Bad, very bad!
49ers had that play sniffed out the first time if they would have run it instead of using it as a fake, different defense on this play and it worked perfect.

Blocking 30 yards from the play is a penalty now.

He wasn't a receiver, wasn't in the area of the play, and hit him in the back

They showed it. He knocked a receiver down from the back. But people are saying it was legal 'cuz Rodgers was out of the pocket, so...

We need more women in STEM, and by that, I mean skateboarding, television, esports, and magic.
I cannot imagine the depth of pessimism of 49ers fans who have watched this game and thought to themselves, "yes, this is definitely the prelude to the Packers going on a 24-0 run in the remaining third of this game"

Unless the hit came after Rodgers crossed the line of scrimmage he was a receiver, your second point doesn't matter if the quarterback is out of the pocket, and I also don't think the third does.

I'm saying I honestly have no idea. Seems lovely to me if defenders can literally push offensive players off their feet.

Once the QB leaves the pocket, Defensive holding doesn't exist and you can knock receivers to the ground.

They become blockers once the QB crosses the line of scrimmage and that's when the away from play hit would come into play, but if Rodgers isn't past the LOS there, it's perfectly legal to gently caress the receiver up.
