Intel&Sebastian posted:The other implied outcome to Rorschach never bending on his principles is that he blows up world peace even after the price has been paid in bodies to keep it going. One of the main themes to the book is whether or not "truth" is something to be upheld simply for it's own sake and the answer is often "nope". I actually disagree on that. Adrian Veidt was going to let Rorschach himself go to tell the world, because he knew he wasn't a credible or trustworthy witness. What's more, the magazine that would be publishing the journal would be the New Frontiersman, which is portrayed as being basically on the same level as the racist Ron Paul newsletter from the 80's.

I mean ok but then that means he got even less for his principled stance? I think the last "I leave it entirely in your hands" panel is supposed to imply that Rorschach's journal has everything any investigative journalist would need to follow up and expose what Veidt did, and that he's at least made exposing it possible, otherwise why even include it? Why end the whole story on it?

He has to use it because its the only way he can "fight crime"

Antifa Turkeesian posted:The reaction I saw was mostly people finding it tedious to sympathize with yet another tormented white man who deserves special consideration for behaving badly because of his exquisite and unique pain, along with mention that mass shooters tend to fall into the Travis Bickle category. If someone is willing to write off the poor and mentally ill for being white, they're looking for an excuse to write off the poor and mentally ill in general, many of who are not in fact white, which explicitly does not in itself matter to anyone actually interested in creating a better world. There's a good chance that they're offloading their reaction to violence against the rich onto "whiteness." Hodgepodge has issued a correction as of 02:38 on Nov 26, 2019 |

The show on its own terms is wonderful and confronts American racism really well (so far).

Why end the whole story on it? Synthesis: Manhattan, with his future-sight, saw that the discovery of Veidt's deception was either inevitable or desirable, but that Rorschach being alive would make it happen in such a way that didn't prevent the apocalypse. Perhaps this way, by the time people realize what actually happened, the peace with the USSR would be too well cemented to be undone. That's just what I think, though. Also, that political cartoon is WAY too well drawn too be an actual political cartoon. Needs more labels, too.

That's just what I think, though. manhattan, as god, is a lovely god and wouldn't lift a finger to make anything better or worse, because, as an all powerful all knowing being, he is intensely bored and disinterested in everything. Rorschach's death doesn't matter one way or the other.
