The flexor and extensor tendons of the forearm that flex and extend the fingers do individually control each finger, but there are some tendinitis sheaths and bursal compartments that join certain finger tendons into groups. The thumb and pinky are always separate but the middle and ring finger are grouped together by these tendinitis sheaths. A second crazy part is that the middle, ring, and pinky finger all get their nerve signals from the same major nerves that come down from the spine. So when you put your middle finger down like that, if you�re putting the entire finger down and not just a part of it (like the poster�s photo does a good job) you maximally stretch the flexor sheaths by isometric flexion against the table. Since those two fingers are linked together the ring finger is moveable by maximal extension of its extensor muscle up in the forearm, but you�re fighting against both the finger being trapped by the stretched tendon sheath and the crisscrossed overload of neuron signals coming down to the fingers by opposing activity of the middle and ring finger.

I recently found out that one of my co- workers sheds her toenails like a cicada skin and i'm super impressed. Like a toenail will fall off and there'll be a new toenail underneath, ready to go.

Works the same way for me. Except they don't fall off by themselves, only if I do something like accidentally kick a metal spike under the nail. I thought it would be problem but there was a brand new toenail under the old one when it finally fell off. Do the rest of you have to live without a toenail if one falls off? :confused:
