I hope there's a Kobayashi/Fight Club moment where it's revealed that Lube Man was present in every pivotal Watchmen scene but nobody remembered him. When HJ puts on the hood for the first time and beats up the muggers, who's that watching in the background? Lube Man. In the aftermath of the Squidfall, as people are wiping them off their cars, who's that sliding down the highway on a flow of dissolving squids? Lube Man. When Laurie is alone in the hotel room and opens up her suitcase, is it a blue dildo she's pulling out of it? No. It's Lube Man.

I thought it was suspect that they were sudden in love with The Leftovers after they became employed by HBO (at least partially). They have some really bad takes imo. Except for Greenwald's take that the finale of Lost wad fine if not good which is accurate.

I don't really care about the backstory for Lube Man but I'll be disappointed if whoever is in the suit isn't Justin Theroux.

EDIT: Beaten quote:The Mike Yanagita scene is important because it sets up Marge going back to the dealership to question Jerry again about the missing car. She initially believes Mike about his dead wife, but when she discovers he was lying she realizes that she might also have been too quick to believe Jerry when he said the dealership wasn’t missing any cars. Yes, and it also serves to show you that one can find a good place for lunch in Downtown Minneapolis that IS reasonable. I've been aware of that explanation but to me it's kind of weak though because it's essentially like she's never realized lying is possible before that. I don't know, maybe small town Minnesota is really like that.quote:Yes, and it also serves to show you that one can find a good place for lunch in Downtown Minneapolis that IS reasonable. Different times, but nowadays if you go to get food in Minneapolis and it's not at a brewery you're doing it wrong IMO

MaoistBanker posted:Sorry for the giant wall of text, but the flashlight being used on both Judd AND Angela has got this guy thinking on Reddit, and it's pretty good. It's a theory, so I won't spoiler it but beforewarned: See, part of this is why I think the real villains are largely the old guard characters and how they influence and gently caress with the present day cast. Veidt inspired Trieu, Will trying to get Angela to see his worldview, and maybe Will influencing Trieu, Trieu to her daughter, etc. Not 100% on the Trieu/Will interaction but I can totally see Will's story being a sort of spark to inspire her. Like their experiences and biases bleed into the next generation and more or less poison them and Angela for one is fighting against it. SardonicTyrant posted:I hope they never explain the lube man. Never got touched on The only real meaningful thing we've seen him done all season is oppose letting the cops act violently, he's literally a teddy bear. They probably went with a panda because they're cuter and generally seen as less dangerous (plus it lets them avoid the race connotation of someone named Black Bear) but regardless he's a big friendly stuffed animal among a bunch of violent action figures.

This shot from the trailer hasn't shown up in the show yet. Me thinks this is Angela trying to get out of Lady Trieu's compound to stop... whatever.

Also, since we have seen from the trailer for next week's episode that they basically redressed up the Tulsa street to look like Hanoi (and the shot of the trailer of people in Vietnam with Dr Manhattan balloons), and that there is an explosion I wonder if THIS shot is actually from Angela's childhood in the 80s in Saigon.

beanieson posted:Is that really how it works? They have the rights as long as they are developing things? it's not how it usually works, but the contract Moore/Gibbons had with DC was that the publisher would have the rights while the book was in circulation and then they'd revert back to the authors, which probably seemed reasonable to them because in the 80s you'd do your single issue run and then maybe print a collection and that would be it, comics weren't kept constantly in print like they are now. of course, it was a big hit, and an important work for the medium, and so DC kept printing it and doing stuff the live action movie, the Before Watchmen comics, and this show from the comic's wikipedia page: quote:Not wanting to work under a work for hire arrangement, Moore and Gibbons had a reversion clause in their contract for Watchmen. Speaking at the 1985 San Diego Comic-Con, Moore said: "The way it works, if I understand it, is that DC owns it for the time they're publishing it, and then it reverts to Dave and me, so we can make all the money from the Slurpee cups."
