Last week’s episode is probably the single best episode of TV I have ever seen.

I try a lot of series but most don't keep me interested long enough to view more than a couple of episodes, but this? I'm counting down the hours every weekend until the new ep is released. The only other show that grabbed me this hard is Breaking Bad (and Better Call Saul).

Yeah there are lots of photos of Hooded Justice in the comic and material and he looks huge. It's the only thing that doesn't square well.

I wonder if Moore originally was trying to use Hooded Justice as a representation of his "the KKK were the original american masked avengers" point. HIs costume is so very lynching reminiscent that its an interesting choice that he's the first canonical hero.

Dope theme tune too. Although something about the monologue makes me think of Henry Rollins?

There's a couple good joke puns in the soundtrack titles. Check it out on Spotify or apple music or whatever if you haven't

Another possible in-fiction reason for HJ incongruities: the Hooded Justice we see in the book is rarely, if ever, the original Hooded Justice. There are two possible explanations for this.

1. More than one man filled the role of Hooded Justice in the Minutemen. Will's disillusionment with the team and Metropolis is a big part of his arc in the episode; it's entirely possible they replaced him with more of a team player (maybe even because of the incident where he blows the dirty cops away in the episode) and the HJ we see most of the time in the book is his replacement.

2. The Minutemen's story in the book is being filtered through the memory/imagination of Hollis Mason and the paradigm of Under The Hood. That Mason got HJ wrong in his book is a given - Before Watchmen (tho prolly not canon in the show) suggests he lied about it on purpose, Petey in the show believes he didn't actually know who HJ was and was projecting his own fantasies/politics - but it's less clear how much of what we see of the past in Watchmen is from his point of view.

The flashback in the book is Sally's memory, not Hollis'.

And yeah, comic HJ is coded as a sadomasochistic fascist as another critique of superheroes.

Yeah, tho either way that leaves the first thing I suggested as an option.

I dunno, I don't find the idea of multiple Hooded Justices unbelievable. Not only is it perfectly in-line with the comic book hero stories Moore was writing about - almost every major masked vigilante has been more than one person - it's in-line with Watchmen itself and the show. There were two Night Owls and two Silk Spectres, Dr. Manhattan can literally be two people at once. Laurie's following in her dad's footsteps (becoming a nihilist g-man), Angela's inheriting Will's legacy, Lady Trieu appears to be the new Veidt, and Looking Glass has as many similarities to Rorschach as the 7K do (literal tinfoil hat guy, alienated loner, only comfortable in his mask, even some physical resemblance).

Everybody's got a legacy and every mask outlives its owner.

There might be a little more to Will’s story, since they bothered to set up Mueller in AHS, but with two episodes to go I hope they don’t give too much time up to continuity discussion.

This is the first non preview episode. And this should be the day when whatever was alluded to at the end of episode 4 happens. And it should be the last year of Veidt's captivity (prior to the show's timeline at least).
