Is simple, black pourover coffee pretentious enough for a tax?

What if it’s made using a Hario V60 with fine paper filters, or Chemex system? What if I used a digital metric scale when pouring, and poured from a gooseneck kettle at a precise temp? What if I ground my own beans?

(V60- $18-30, Chemex- $30-60, digital scale- $8 but it’s what the snobs use)

I'm not saying it's their only problem, but one of their reporters wrote an entire book filled with high school level gossip about someone who literally no one cares about. Surely there's a better use of their resources. I guess it's better than them conning the country into invading other countries for no reason, but I would be embarrassed as hell to work there today.

"Soda" should be taxed, but pop shouldn't. Give people an economic reason to use the correct terminology. In addition, people who refer to all soft drinks as "Coke" regardless of brand should be jailed.

A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., on Monday denied the Justice Department's efforts to lift a temporary halt on four federal executions.

The department had appealed a trial judge's ruling last month that ordered a stay of the executions while a separate legal challenge to the Trump administration's new lethal injection protocol plays out.
The longest running of the four lawsuits was filed 16 years ago, and the cases went dormant during the Obama administration amid a shortage of lethal injection drugs.

The first of the four executions was set for December 9. The only other federal death row prisoner with an upcoming execution received a stay from another circuit court.

In July, Attorney General William Barr announced that federal executions would resume with the launch of a new lethal injection protocol that utilizes a single drug, pentobarbital, in lieu of the previous three-drug "cocktail" that was becoming increasingly difficult to obtain

So he isn't wrong in what he is saying exactly but his national inexperience is showing.

Essentially, he is saying that if you can tax something to the point of making people make a healthier decision it's worth it because the health benefits outweigh the short term benefits. But Bloomberg being Bloomberg basically made it sound like poor people are too stupid to make the right decision without addressing the other issues that are associated with being poor.

He could of said something like: "This isn't about being regressive it's about making dangerous products less enticing for everyone. A sugar tax would entice less people to drink sugary drinks while also generating revenue to health programs across (the nation, NYC). While this doesn't work in all cases, for these types of products it has shown to be effective."

Saying the same thing, without the same language.

bloomberg, being a massively rich guy from NYC was almost assuredly more going all-in on the 'poor people can't be trusted to not make bad choices' than the saner, more cogent argument of 'well we can sin tax sugary beverages until people make a better choice'

Sugar drink taxes also have the downside of being extremely unpopular among most americans.

I know this is from a few pages back but I need to way in. I'm an ex addict and I'm pretty sure I can speak for most people that have ever dealt with addiction. We love our sugar. I eat more candy than a kid with permissive parents on halloween. I also love a good soda. Sugar helps with the process. I think taxing the incredibly wealthy in order to subsidize healthy food choices might be a better way to get healthy food into people's hands. Sugar has its place but maybe we should try educating people about healthy cooking.
