Near my parents' house is a little forest that I used to love playing in when I was younger and which protected the surrounding houses from hurricanes and floods due to the specific trees growing in it being particularly well-adapted to being windbreaks and the soil being great at soaking up excess water. I think I mentioned in this thread before but a huge chunk of it (pretty much 75%) was cut down and replaced with compacted clay-dirt to build a lovely house for some confirmed maga chuds. Anyway when visiting for thanksgiving I now find out that the house isn't even going where the forest was - it's going off to the side. They leveled the entire forest to have a big lawn. Lawns are the loving worst.

No real methodology given other than it was a survey of millionaires self-reporting, so lmfao.

Yeah I remember that news story went around a little while ago and a bunch of rich apologist idiots were like "See the American dream is still alive!!! We worked hard and earned this!!!" and obvious holes were punched in it almost immediately.

$1MM is.. one mega million?
|
# ? Dec 2, 2019 21:30 |

its a million iirc in some languages before metrification they used to use "M" to mean a thousand (in lots of romance languages thousand is "mil" or something like that) so MM being a million was used to be unambiguous e: they still use MM in finance because finance people are dumb and unlike in science and engineerinng, where clear communication is important, in finance and economics understandable communication is looked down upon Shear Modulus has issued a correction as of 22:18 on Dec 2, 2019 |

Vashro posted:$1MM is.. one mega million? M is thousand in roman numerals so to be pedantic economists use M to mean a thousand and MM to mean a thousand-thousand. Though in UK MM can mean a million-million as an abreviation for a billion. We should just all use metric for money and call it kilo-euros, mega-euros, giga-euros for thousands, millions and billions respectively. No ambiguity.

A can of Monster has 24 fl. oz. and 330 big C Calories, but it costs like $2 so halve that, 165 big C Calories and 12 fl. oz. Assuming it has the same density as water (which it doesn't, but it's close enough) that's ~355g. 1 big C Calorie is 1000 little c calories, and the little c calories are the ones that can heat one gram of water by 1 degree c. So that's 165,000 little c calories heating 355g of liquid, so it could heat it up ~464 degrees. Sugar has a hell of a lot of chemical energy in it.

dvt is blood clots and that risk has to be treated with blood thinners my pregnant wife just got put on them and the only one a pregnant lady can safely take requires injecting them yourself, daily (subcutaneously, like insulin). our copay for them was $120 with "good" insurance for a month's supply. i wonder what the total cost is gonna end up being on top of that lol

I was just defining a new metric dollar rather than converting USD into metric but this is p cool thanks. I guess a metric dollar is a quarter of a cent give or take. Not out of line with a lot of world currencies.
