we’re already in a pretty novel spot with the rise of crossover rap that’s actually listenable. Post Malone and Lil Peep figuring out that emo mashes with rap better than other forms of rock music was a big moment. you may hate them but they did create a bit of a moment.

And yah the lil nas x chicanery is definitely interesting. at what point do we find out how ironic his music actually is? it’s been like a year.

music from before 1990 didn’t have lil Wayne, the greatest rapper alive. therefore music is better now than it was then.

idk I like musicality, and almost every rap song gets boring after the second verse because the music is usually just a vehicle for the lyrics.

and the opioid/benzo drawl is miserable to listen to. idgi. I like (some) metal vocals and corpse grinder is difficult to hear what he’s singing but I like the aggression. pantera vocals are good in that regard too./ but making it sound like you’re trying as absolutely little as possible to sing just holds so little appeal. if it was used for effect somewhere sure but as a general style.

and so I would be very intrigued to hear the “tool” of hip hop. where the song progresses and the vocals are part of it (rather than the point) and the music is a journey. even if it was no vocals, i’d be intrigued. i’ve tried to find it but no success but i would also be very surprised if it didn’t exist. hip hop music can sound awesome
