I think my character had a pretty nice curve of cop type. Started as a superstar cop, but Kim's disapproval caused me to become a sorry cop by day 2, then day 3 I really start to get my poo poo together and become a competent cop for the rest of the game.

I beat this Wednesday night and am still floored. The writing reminds me of Thomas Pynchon more than anything else, with the deftly handled tone juggling and musical numbers. I save scummed a few white checks, but only one red: like hell I was letting Kim get shot. Christ almighty what a great game. I don't think I saw this mentioned in the thread, possibly because it's a bit too obvious, but Disco Elysium is a play on The Trammps' Disco Inferno, with "Inferno" taken as a synonym for "Hell" rather than a kickin' rad party as it is in the song. The church in the karaoke song's title could be a reference to Camille Saint-Saëns, a 19th century composer most famous for the downright bitchin' Dans Macabre.

Minor mid-game spoiler: Can I find my gun without working for Evrart? I got as far as the pawnshop guy telling me 'someone named Pigs has it' and the game telling me I'll need to luck across it. But I hit the fishmarket after 10 and it was empty! However, I did this without reporting it missing and without triggering the secret task. P.S. This game is excellent.

So I spent some of tonight transcribing a few key scenes for the essay I'm apparently actually going to write, mostly about the pale, consciousness, and existentialism. I got the following scenes transcribed:
Tomorrow when I have a little more left in me I'm going to transcribe the conversation with the Phasmid. I'm doing these on my hacked playthrough so I'm getting all the passive skill successes. Does anyone remember any other conversations or sequences that touch on the pale or consciousness that would be worth having in my notes? Maybe some of the dream sequences where you talk to the Ancient Reptilian Brain and the Limbic System? As a side note, Joyce calls the pale "The transition state of being into nothingness" which makes me fairly confident that the existential themes are intended and not just a personal obsession I'm reading too much into the text, lol.

I just got this game yesterday, and man. I want to push Sunday Friend out the window. Racist Lorry Driver is bad, but relatively harmless. (Except I to suspect he was the peeping tom. I need to go back and check his boots.) Sunday Friend is literally the corrupt right wing government official right down to the (conjecture) sex scandals with the poor. My favorite thing so far is the writing choice to make your skills into characters in their own right. It adds so much depth to Harry's psyche.

Enjoy posted:I went communist at first but all the communists in the game are jerks so I went moralist Every ideology has at least one genuinely admirable proponent in the game. "Nationalism" has Rene Arnoux, who is a genuine badass and also dies, making him the only kind of good fascist "Moralism" has Kim Kitsuragi who is actually a crypto-communist even if he doesn't realize it himself; see his jacket, etc. "ultraliberalism" has Joyce who surrenders to the Union and/or is still daydreaming about her hunky communist boyfriend from 30 years prior And communism has the Deserter who is a better communist than you. Actually the serious answer here is Titus Hardie

Yeah, why you would think you're the only one that is experiencing those existential themes in this game is bizarre. Do you think you're the only person that truly exists?
