Egg noodles with cottage cheese are a common Ashkenazi Jewish dish called lokshen mit kaese, and there’s a Hungarian version that also has grated onion (or at least did in the restaurant I used to go to) called turos csusza. Edit to add a recipe for turos csusza because it is so good. You can substitute grated onions or scallions for the chives if you want to follow that old restaurant’s lead. Rollersnake posted:I ate a lot of egg noodles with cottage cheese (and/or sour cream) growing up, and it wasn't until I did some research that I realized this wasn't just some white trash recipe my mom came up with. Turns out it's a very common Slovak-American thing, because it's kind of a facsimile of the Slovak national dish bryndzové halušky, made with stuff that would have been readily available in the US. That recipe sounds delicious, potato dumplings and cheese is always a good mix.

I'm making a veal blanquette (stew) and I used violet carrots in it and it turned the whole thing pink instead if white/beige. I mean of course it would but I wasn't really thinking about the resulting color. SpaceGoatFarts has a new favorite as of 18:48 on Dec 8, 2019 |

Our local hockey team's color is teal. There is a sushi counter in the arena. And yes, somebody decided that that means they need to serve sushi with bright teal rice. Like, on purpose.

Tonight I'm having pozole verde which is an odd shade of green from the tomatillos and poblanos and cilantro. Not sure how I would handle a teal soup.

It seems weird to theme a restaurant around an era when China wound up getting hit by a devastating famine. I was trying to think something similar and the closest I got was a food that was eaten in desperation in Cambodia becoming a tourist attraction. That food is spiiiideeeeerrs

There are also Cultural Revolution theme restaurants where they put a dunce cap on you and scream in your face while you eat gruel. Supposedly each one has at least one actual Red Guard working there for authenticity.

Sure, every stand-up has a character, but there's playing a character and there's playing a caricature and then there's playing a caricature and going in 110% on marketing and catchphrases.
