I was already having a little spiral of despair and now I'm really feeling down I hope at least Corbyn gets elected and the UK policy stops being "hate migrants" because that's not good for my mental health and also I want the UK to be a bit more like Denmark or one of those socialist-ier countries Also Brexit Referendum v2 being done and getting either Brexit cancelled or (more likely) a Soft Brexit kinda deal would be great I'll actually be happy to pay the extra couple thousand quid in tax that'll be coming my way, no doubts about that

mila kunis posted:Not sure if this got posted here, but look who came around I suspected for awhile Brown has better instincts in his heart than we saw in 2010 and he got barracked into neoliberalism by the inertia of New Labour and their capture of the party. I doubt at this stage his intervention will mean much, but with some of the margins we're seeing in certain seats, swaying even single-digit numbers of people may end up being consequential.

Ms Adequate posted:*In extremely Nott voice* I am the greatest psephologist of all time! I posted one poll and I solved the Didcot election! https://tactical.vote/wantage Hmm yes, very unclear which party to vote for. Labour on 17k with a 10% gain, Lib Dems on 9k with a 1.5% gain, whom'st among us can truly say which is best to vote against the tories. https://electionresults.parliament.uk/election/2017-06-08/results/Location/Constituency/Wantage I get that it's no marginal, but Labour are (or were) making gains over the last few years, and it does seem like Vaizey stepping down opens up uncertainty among familiarity voters. They might not win but that's nowhere near the same thing as the Lib Dems being as valid a choice. I'm also just feeling bummed out that we are getting bombarded by Lib Dem leaflets constantly which are still using the lovely EU election results. Had one labour leaflet which they couldn't even be arsed to trifold. Had nothing from the tories so far either though. The national strategy is to go agressively after current marginals, but I just feel bitterly disappointed living in what could eventually have become a marginal, especially with Vaizey leaving. Especially disheartening when I read all these amazing positive stories of people out campaigning and contributing themselves and I basically can't do poo poo except alienate the few friends I have over them drifting casually over to the Lib Dems. Do not gently caress lib dems that's how you catch liberalism. Masturbate furiously or gently caress lefties as this is self or collective ownership of the means of production. If you gently caress liberals they're going to start talking about market penetration and holding your shares while you pay dividends and then your entire sex life has been finacialised.

Any goons familiar with what it's like on the ground in Altrincham and Sale West? I want to do something more useful than campaign in my local safe seat, and the campaign map says they need people out to that marginal, but I've got the fear. How might I find a point of contact?

They make loads of 'adult' oriented ones now. I had a beer one the other year and got cheese this year. They're a fun novelty, but usually a con if you look at what you actually get for the money. The main issue is that no one on the planet actually wants to keep up with consuming 24 of the same thing in a row, so they get stockpiled until some mad splurge between boxing day and new years.

I posted a few months ago about finally joining Labour, after years of putting up with increasingly gammony family. I did that, but I've had some health issues over the last few months. Losing my brother did a number on my depression, with all the attendant woes. Well, I've finally decided to go out and do something - just emailed my local branch about the canvassing and leafleting events for the next few days. Probably won't be the biggest impact - I'm in Poole, and a 14k Con majority won't be beaten overnight. Is anyone else round this way? Not sure how it'll go in such a safe seat, and I'm even a little worried about running into someone from work. Despite what the national polls say, the energy of this election feels very different to 2017. I'd never have even considered something like this without reading everyone here posting about getting out there, and the podcast has been a great boost as well. Really curious just how many extra people have got into campaigning because of this thread.

In the last few days they've swerved massively to defence. They are running ads in only 24 Lab-held seats. By contrast, they are running ads in 62 Con seats (43 threatened by Lab, 19 by LD)
