anyway re y'all specifically, it really is annoying that people are trying to make it some kind of woke term. a lot of people I know from DSA stuff do it and its very awkward. it like, ruins the cadence of their sentences because they're just mentally replacing a word with yall instead of actually using it. and it really is vaguely offensive since not even 4 years ago people made fun of me for saying it. it's on par with people who learn im Hispanic and start trying to pronounce spanish slightly more correctly around me.

idk i sounded like a louisiana swamp person in silicon valley and i don't have any real accent, just yat vernacular like "lagniappe" it feels like the real difference is that cities in the south just have more rural slang spoken in them thanks to larger overall rural populations, which would necessarily sound more forced in places like nyc or la. i can certainly understand being annoyed at brooklyn/san francisco podcasters saying "y'all"
