Operative Vader and Luke were a good start, if they hadn't missed their projection by a few months...

Edit: I mean, come all the releases up to the end of February things are gonna be good. R2d2 is extremely strong, Rebels get DLTs, droids get poison guns and B2s look terrifying. Phase 2s are a crazy good corps too, the tank look hot, phase 1 shotties? Uh yeah.

Enjoy, friend. I'm sticking with the GCW for now.

They could sell more tanks if they included cards to run it as rebel salvage and refit, I'd be down to run it as Johnny Reb's tank.

I really like the idea of the X-34 Landspeeder where Rebels bolt weapons onto a civilian vehicle but I'm not sure it's any good.

Gumdrop Larry

I think the landspeeder and GAVw tank both suffered from coming out really close to the points rebalancing pass for them to get critically looked at, cause they're both a little overcosted now. The tank at least can play the role of a slightly lighter-weight but slightly cheaper AT-ST at this point, but the speeder suffers from being in a position where you will almost always ask "why not just run tauntauns or an AT-RT?" But that's if you're being really min/max-y and meta, and also more of a symptom of tauntauns being really pushed in terms of design.

I like the look of it with the rifle gunner and medium blaster. With a little bit of foresight on your compulsory move and most turns will be just aiming and shooting. It's not too bad for a really mobile and hard to hit piece that can flank and bust up a gunline with offensive dice that would be about on par with your average kitted out troop unit. For laughs you can have Chewbacca with tenacity riding in it since he wants to get a little bit banged up on the ride in so he's enraged when he hops out.

I was thinking of getting back into legion with the droid faction. How are they? They seem cool and fun and dooku and greveous are good boys but I just know I'll spend hours on pumping out battle droid squads only to have Luke run up and obliterate all of them in a single round. I hope theyre not just worse stormtroopers.

I mean the B1s are 6 points each; They are worse Stormtroopers. I do think people might be jumping the gun on labeling the faction as a whole a swarm faction, though, as all of the other options we've seen so far are tougher and more expensive.

With stormtroopers it was a squad of 4 meat shields protecting the one gun with a gun that could hit things. Is it like that?

The Xwing analogue for B1s is a Bwing. They have wounds to soak damage, so don't rely on those saves. 4 lucky crits won't wipe a squad, but if your storms roll bad, there goes your heavy weapon. You actually don't even care if Luke jumps into a squad of B1s, he'll kill 5. That's 30 points. And he's still engaged will 2-3 models. If he jumped into a squad of Death Troopers he'll probably also kill 5, but that's 110+ points and also he's free to engage another unit. Because you don't expect them to save anyway, you don't care about Pierce weapons. Droids do care about chip damage from range 4 weapons, so you gotta hide them on they way in and just overwhelm the opponent on the last turn, they just won't be able to kill enough to stop your roll.

So i'm playing around with the miniatures i have so far trying to figure out a good list. Here's where I'm at with my Imperials:

793/800 (8 Activations)
General Veers (Improvised Orders, Aggressive Tactics, Electrobinoculars)
Director Orson Krennic (Esteemed Leader, Strict Orders, Electrobinoculars)
2x Stormtroopers (DLT-19 Stormtrooper)
Shoretroopers (T-21B Trooper, Hunter)
DF-90 Mortar Trooper (Long-Range Comlink)
Imperial Death Troopers (DLT-19D Trooper, Overwatch, E-11D Focused Fire Config)
TX-225 GAVw Occupier Combat Assault Tank (General Weiss, DLT-19 Rifle Pintle, Comms Jammer)

Any tips? This is my first 800 point list. I have an AT-ST, a speeder bike unit, & Vader still available to swap.

hoiyes
May 17, 2007
I'd probably trim some fat (commanders probably only need Strict orders and Agressive Tactics) and put in the ATST over the occupier. It's height helps on battlefield with cramped terrain that can really hamper the tank.

The ATST wants the hammer pilot, mortar and twin blaster cannon. Linked targeting array too, if you have a card pack. Give mortar and death troopers comm relay, they both get free orders (via coordinate and entourage) that you can pass to ATST.

Shoretroopers don't really need an elite talent, and Hunter is probably better on Death troopers. If you have a medbot you really could use one, as you don't have many corps bodies, and an astromech too.

Gumdrop Larry
Jul 30, 2006

Yeah that's a pretty solid core lineup of units. I like to run Veers lean since he basically drops Maximum Firepower turn 1 then goes up midfield with the rest of the gunline to hand out aim tokens and take potshots. Krennic is a bigger fan of hanging back field and using all three of his command cards, so he's more likely to be giving out orders in general across the game. Shoretroopers are rock solid, and if you can afford the extra body it's good to do so. Every wound and attack die counts, and with the heavy weapon one big draw of shoretroopers is how dangerous an offensive dice pool they have even when a bunch of guys in the unit are dead. They also benefit from recon intel as a little filler card when possible due to the deployment rules of the mortar, which lets it get into position and start plonking shots a little quicker than usual. Overwatch is a pretty sub par card for two reasons; Standby is by far the least commonly used action in the game and extremely situational, and moreover the deathtroopers are all about staying put in cover and taking range 4 shots with the long rang config. Most of their turns will either be aim/shoot or recover/shoot. I also agree that the points changes and nature of how fights flow tend to make the AT-ST a better option than the tank overall, but the tank is still fine if you like it more.

Generally it's a good idea to be really deliberate with upgrade cards, and acknowledge when you could trim a lot of them down to fit in more bodies or potentially even another unit. It's tempting to fill those slots but a lot of times is not super efficient. Once you get accustomed to the units you can make those calls way easier as to what you personally wish they could do a little better, like sticking environmental gear on something you frequently find getting bogged down by difficult terrain or recon intel on something you want upfield a little bit quicker, etc. With what you own and being min/max-y about it here's roughly where I'd go:

General Veers (80 + 8 = 88)
--Electrobinoculars (8)

Director Orson Krennic (90 + 15 = 105)
--Strict Orders (5), Aggressive Tactics (10)

Stormtroopers (44 + 24 = 68)
--DLT-19 Stormtrooper (24)

Stormtroopers (44 + 24 = 68)
--DLT-19 Stormtrooper (24)

Shoretroopers (52 + 47 = 99)
--T-21B Trooper (32), Shoretrooper (13), Recon Intel (2)

DF-90 Mortar Trooper (36 + 0 = 36)

Imperial Death Troopers (76 + 44 = 120)
--DLT-19D Trooper (34), Recon Intel (2), E-11D Grenade Launcher Config (8)

AT-ST (170 + 45 = 215)
--First Sergeant Arbmab (5), 88 Twin Light Blaster Cannon (20), AT-ST Mortar Launcher (10), HQ Uplink (10)

Commands:
Maximum Firepower (1), Voracious Ambition (1), Push (2), Deploy the Garrison (2), Assault (3), Annihilation Looms (3), Standing Orders (4)

The imperial specialist box is definitely a good place to go from here since the officer is a great attachment for the shoretroopers instead of the extra generic guy, and the medical bot is always a feasible option to throw on any given unit for support. A box of scout troopers is also good since the 48 point sniper team is still powerful and great for squeezing in another solid activation when otherwise points might get a little awkward.

Thanks for the feedback! I've amended my list to go along with your edits below. It seems like it'll be a blast to play with. At the very least that's the one I'm going to use while I get a better grip on the mechanics.

Shoretroopers are next on the list. I've got a Hoth theme (seen above), and I've started on a Scarif theme Empire list. 1 squad of Deathtroopers is done, out of...many more I need to buy, before I can even consider painting.

Thanks! I wanted to get cracking on them. I actually got the tank on Christmas day & painted it up that night. Fairly easy overall. The body is just necron compound over black. I really loved the model so that's what spurred me to paint it. I also got the new core set as a gift, but that won't be delivered until Jan 18th, so I wanted to get some of the stuff painted before I added on.

I think I have a scheme for my Rebels planned out. I just need to paint them. 5 x Rebel Troopers, 1 x Rebel Pathfinders, AT-RT, Luke & Leia.
