Waffle and or Huddle House are basically Denny's but the karmic opposite. Denny's (and IHOP) are where you go when there's nothing left for you in life and you'll get served a meal that's somehow too cold on the outside and burning hot on the inside and three different people will be murdered in the parking lot that day. Waffle house is there at 4 AM on a Thursday morning and will sustain you through the worst night of your life. Amber has forgotten her roots and embraced the NYC College Professor trying to befriends socialites lifestyle. I pray for her to remember heaven's light.

In classic Ford factory production style, he also insisted that Fordlandia plant only one variety of rubber tree which got wiped out by the South American leaf blight. Almost all natural rubber production today happens in Southeast Asia and if the blight were to make its way there from Brazil there's a good chance we'd be unable to produce natural rubber, which is required for stuff like plane tires where synthetic rubber is too brittle. So if you're looking at a way to cut global carbon emissions..........

Yeah you're right, they meant the places where the seating is communal, like the whole place might have 3 long rear end tables and so you can end up sitting next to strangers. In the US they're more common in hipstery beer halls and trendy (not sceney but like farm-to-table or whatever is trendy now) food places, not sure about elsewhere. "Family style" usually means you order big things that you share with people in your party, though, like you said.

Yeah, it's super common in Japan and most of East Asia, and while I'm sure the US manages to gently caress it up, it's really good here.

Omnicarus posted:Fordlandia was bizarre and they glossed over some of the really wild stuff. Ford was a lunatic that wanted to set up a rubber plantation/Jonestown/Boot Camp colony in the Amazon to produce tires. He did not, however, believe in adapting to the environment in any way and so between the heat, humidity, and disease you get a tough spot in the best of conditions. Of the 1,500 total workers that were usually employed by Fordlandia, you had over 90 workers dying of Malaria in Fordlandia per year That's good stuff, but it leaves even crazier details out. Fors was skeptical of specialists, and firmly believed that just hiring smart people (or people he -considered- smart) and letting them handle things was the best way to gt things done. After all, if you know one thing, you can master ALL things, right? So instead of getting agronomers or experts who knew stuff about rubber trees, he just picked his favorite staffers and placed them in competely unfamiliar locations and jobs. The results in terms of production were comical, until they finally started listening to local people who lived from that trade (not that they admitted that). By then, the rest of the issues were derailing the whole enterprise and it was way too late.

Other than strictly order beef Satays and chicken wings for your entree like me and my siblings did when were 10. You guys are mixing up 3 genres of restaurant: 1. Communal seating 2. Family style servings 3. Family themed restaurants 1. Benihanas, beer halls, hipster farm to table. You pretend not to eavesdrop on the couple sitting so close to you that you’re touching. You think you will finally be more spontaneous and social and make friends but really it will be you and your friend quietly talking in the middle of a group of 8 that know each other. 2. Asian restaurants, buco di beppo, literally any restaurant that serves food if you go “hey you guys just wanna share like 5 entrees and 5 apps” and everybody agrees 3. Cracker Barrel, cheddars, bob evans - the marketing is all about taking your grandpa and stepkids to these restaurants after church. All entrees are $8 and you are all obese midwesterners so nobody shares entrees
