Angepain posted:Scotland has 59 parliament seats of 650, and 5.5 million people out of 66.5 million. Scotland is the sparsest area of the UK, I think this goes back to the Highland Clearances - there's generally very few people outside of the central belt around Glasgow and Edinburgh. The SNP are usually about 3-4% on UK polls, and the difference between the votes needed for "SNP Crush Everyone" versus "Humiliation For Loser Sturgeon" is well within the margin of error for a UK-wide poll. There are a couple of Scotland-only polls and those are probably a better bet to get some idea what's going on nobody lives in scotland

Sure hope it does and a bunch of others do, I'm debating calling in sick on Friday just cause I don't think I can stand all of the management types crowing about the Tories doing anything better than getting annihilated like they obviously deserve. Simultaneously if Labour wins or it's minority party time or whatever, I would love to just go and get a drink as soon as the news breaks. Reading West and Reading East are both close marginals. I'll be knocking on doors tomorrow to get out the vote in Reading East.

There were certainly nowhere near as many of us getting out and actually canvassing/leafleting/generally helping out last time round. It's been fantastic to see the level of engagement. This is totally me: I'd never campaigned in an election before and for all that it's been sometimes frustrating and sometimes depressing, it's been brilliant meeting new people and just getting involved and feeling like you've contributed. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

We're doing exceptionally better than ever before ( but then they didn't have me before). She may also realise the enormity of being a mp. Whereas, our beloved Tory overlord is so smug and complacent she needs her arse kicked from here to hades. So yeah, we dont know. Sorry. Our candidate is confident (we had tory mp til now). But I was talking to our local branch coordinator tonight and he said he didn't think we were going to make it though he hasn't said so to our candidate. However, I did point out to him that our particular town is the toriest part of the constituency and he did say that the toriest ward was showing signs of being more sympathetic to labour. We made up a lot of ground against the tory in 2015. Be great if we do win.

I think I heard that some of the US states have some sort of system like that, but I might be wrong. Ed: I moved recently and reregistered online using the drop down. I know I picked the right flat, but I got polling card with the wrong address - next door's on it. Fortunately next door dropped it in to me (as I'm new here it's lucky they knew it was me though I had put a mugshot and introduction up in the entrance hall announcing my arrival!) and I was able to get the registration officer to correct it in time. I also had to sort out the utter mess of a CSV file that the electoral registration officer had provided for new registrations to our CLP so make it suitable for a mailmerge. There were names in address fields, phone numbers in address fields, names and bits of address in the phone number field, absolute mess (including mine - you'd think with online entry it would be automated but apparently not). To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go To right the unrightable wrong To love, pure and chaste from afar To try, when your arms are too weary To reach the unreachable star This is my quest, to follow that star No matter how hopeless, no matter how far To fight for the right, without question or pause To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause And I know if I'll only be true To this glorious quest That my heart will lay peaceful and calm When I'm laid to my rest And the world will be better for this That one man, scorned and covered in scars Still strove with his last ounce of courage To fight the unbeatable foe To reach the unreachable star
