my erection prediction: hung parliament with labour as the biggest party or lab/con being roughly equal boris alexander de pfeffel johnson loses his seat, tries to legally change name to dominic raab to still get a seat then realises dominic raab is in the 3rd recount and it's about 2 votes difference hard brexit happens accidentally because everyone is preventing each other from becoming PM, three days later jo of swindon enables the ascension of the PM for the 18th century #moggmentum because now it's too late to prevent brexit so might as well make sure austerity continues and go into coalition

There was a guy wearing a Lib Dem rosette sat basically inside the polling station trying to get my polling information. He said it was for when they run round with a car later knocking on doors to give people lifts. How the gently caress is this legal.

Just got back from the polling station - voted for Jam Socialism, of course. The previous two GEs (same polling station, same sort of time of day), I've usually been the only one there. This time there were half a dozen of us or so. Maybe it's people choosing to vote in daylight hours...or maybe it's a sign of the coming red tidal wave. I'm in the Peterborough bit of Northwest Cambridgeshire, so the local wards are strong Labour but the constituency includes swathes of gammony/landowning countryside so is a very safe Tory seats. Which sucks. But who knows? The villages out in the Fens were awash with UKIP and BXP placards in previous elections and now there's...nothing. If they have all decided to go back to the Conservatives they're certainly not enthusiastic about it. There really is a feeling that everything's to play for, and a sense that we're on the cusp of something big.

Hard to argue that helping more people to vote is undemocratic.

Tellers must not: be able to see or hear what is happening inside the polling station impede, obstruct or intimidate voters on their way in or out of the polling station demand any information relating to a voters elector number, name or address ask voters to re-enter the polling station to ascertain their elector number have discussions with voters that may give rise to allegations of undue influence (e.g. voting intentions, party affiliations or party campaigns) display any campaign material in support of or against any particular political party or candidate other than a rosette or badge Ring up your local party office and tell them about it, they will probably send someone to look and/or you can also make a complaint to your returning officer (assuming you can get hold of them).

You don't have to give them any info if you don't want to, but the records are usually shared between the Tellers (so if & when Labour or Tory ones rock up later, the LD will let them know the info they have taken). The parties compare the list of who has voted with their canvassing returns and use it for their GOTV campaign later in the day. Source - was a Teller for Labour at the local polling booth for a few hours at the Local Elections earlier this year. EDIT : If he was doing any of the things listed above by PST then that is bad and needs to be reported. biglads fucked around with this message at 13:28 on Dec 12, 2019 |

Pablo Bluth posted:I forgot to cancel my postal vote registration (I was out of the country for the last one) and postal voting just doesn't have the same satisfaction. It really doesn't, but it's still the best thing to do if you can. Some people who've voted by post will have died or become otherwise incapacitated before polling day. I postal vote just in case I'm one of them. Of course the people most likely to be in that group are the old - so the very existence of postal voting gives olds a slight overrepresentation at the ballot. Combine that with Labour doing better at the end of a campaign than at the beginning, and enabling more olds to vote, and postal voting really sucks for the party. We should do it ourselves though.
