This is my first British election, so how this is gonna go? If say, parties are close in the exit polls, will the polls be updated throughout the night, or will there be one official announcement? If one party owns the exit polls, how are the chances it reflects the later results?

i jsut went and voted. when i got there there was a couple of people sitting behind a table, one was wearing a blue rosette, asking for polling cards. when i told them we didn't have them they acted surprised and asked me to remember my voter roll number or whatever and let them know what it was on the way out, then pointed me to where the people with the roll handing out ballots were I've never noticed those guys before, are they a thing? E: i didn't really pay attention to what my number was and forgot it, but i wasn't inclined to give it to them anyways

Oh yeah, one other thing seen in Woodford: Apparently the family living there now are hardcore Tory. Place needs to be nationalised. Interesting opinion from my niece (who had to queue for 10 minutes in a very safe Labour seat) - she reckons that a couple of her friends, who basically never vote, have turned out because they were blindsided by the referendum result and are now treating this as a chance to register an extremely delayed Remain vote. She specifically mentioned one who said she'd not bothered in 2017 because it seemed like Labour had no chance and was kicking herself when it turned out that she might have been able to make a difference. Luckily my niece didn't explain that running up the score in a safe seat actually *isn't* making a difference...

Exit poll comes out at 10pm, and whilst it's almost certainly not perfectly accurate, they have been reasonably close to the actual result for the last few elecitons. Of course, if things are narrow, then being out by just a few seats can make a massive difference. So after it comes out we'll get the first proper results like an hour later because there's a couple of seats that work really hard to be able to say First, but things really start kicking off between midnight and 1, at which point we'll start getting a sense of how accurate the exit poll is. Then that proceeds through the rest of the morning basically.

Tory voters, being generally pensioners, are less likely to vote if there is a high turnout - they see a gang of youths hanging around and get scared and call the police, assuming they're about to get turbomugged and murdered rather than just queing for the polling station.
