Actual ideological Blairite MPs have almost all left the party or parliament altogether. The party membership, who are the ones who in the end vote for the leadership, are more solidly left leaning than ever. Over the last 4 years the left has gained control of the party's institutions. The Labour right are not capable of reversing all of this any time soon.

That's heartening at least.

I guess if there's a lesson in all this, and it applies to the US as well, it's that socialists shouldn't invest so much in the electoral fortunes of one man/one party. In fact I'm starting to think we've all been doing this backwards. We've been pushing to have leftists installed in the formal halls of power so that they can implement reforms from above, when we should have been more focused on organizing on the ground to build up an opposition to those in power. I know the usual rebuttal to this is "we can do both" but I'm not so sure about that anymore. Big electoral campaigns have a sort of gravity to them, and the movement seems to inevitably begin to orbit around them. Which means if they fail it's devastating. We saw this when a bunch of people freaked out over Bernie having a heart attack, and now we're seeing it again.

yeah completely

we are actually in a rather new position as people in the 24-35 age bracket are interested in socialism but we are having to come up with a whole new methodology for this poo poo since neoliberalism hosed up the old structure of organization, and thus we have to experiment

the fundamental thing, imho, is to try new forms of labor organization and tactics to hit the fucktards where it hurts: property and capital
