OK yeah now I'm willing to concede we're hosed. Hope there are at least a few decent scalps as a consolation prize. I still want to laugh hollowly at Swinson, Umunna and IDS losing their seats even if it doesn't really matter.

Jo Swinson is a piece of poo poo and I'd be interested to see how many seats labour loses for the sole reason she split the vote with her propaganda resulting in some ridiculous "conservative win seat with 31% of the vote to labours 29 and lib dems 20% shenanigans"

I mean yea, I dunno if you noticed but new labour wasn't socialist except in the sense they thought maybe letting the poors starve to death was bad for buisness. They were neoliberals through and through and that's the problem.

No. I will not let this be the end. Not of me nor of the people I love. I think if there is anything we can do now, it is organise it is build ourselves things that cope and care for people, it is be as kind as we can without limit. I'm sad and have the terrible sinking feeling in my gut that comes from fear. But all we can do is fight. Probably forever.

This isn't a requirement to tack to the centre - this is just leave voting areas being angry at labour for being "too remain" and not wanting a second referendum. Left-wing politics can still win, Brexit has just hosed us over.

El Grillo posted:Yes. But if you accept that the monstering is the entirety of the reason corbyn is so disastrously unpopular, then you accept that there is no hope for anyone. And that is (a) not grounded in reality - some people are better politicians/leaders than others, this necessarily will make a difference to how badly they are affected by negative press, and (b) it is also despair, which is the greatest evil we face, a toxic poison which is the greatest danger to our future, greater even than the genuinely loving evil motherfuckers such as the Tories who are actively damaging to society and human beings in general. Yup. It's easy to say 'the press would have treated everyone this badly', but that doesn't actually help. There are left-wing politicians that can handle a tough interview better than Corbyn. That can make jokes in PMQs better than Corbyn. That don't have the past associations Corbyn has. Corbyn achieved the nearly impossible by realigning the Labour party and actually winning seats in 2017. He just had the appalling luck to be stuck between a rock and a hard place on Brexit. We lost today. New fight starts tomorrow.
