Brexit has realigned electoral politics away from class lines. Meanwhile the working class is at a historically weak point in terms of organisation in work places. We need to rebuild from the ground up.

The BBC are comparing this to results in the 30s but the situation for our movement is more like the 1880s- prior to new unionism. Corbynism never attempted to address the basic weakness of the working class.

Socialists who have backed brexit for the last 59 years should be held to account. The reality of it has destroyed our class's political coherence.

Any good union/organisation history book recommendations?

I kind of feel like toward the end some of us (and I include myself in this) were turning into the weird augs from ds9 who were so sure they'd calculated every angle, and in the end it came down to not understanding that people are irrational, they don't always make the best decisions, and their unpredictability is the rule rather than the exception.

Lesson learned I guess. Hide the poisoned blade while goading your opponent with the nice shiny shield. If we want a better world we have to fight dirty too.

The "Russian asset" smear is already having diminishing returns against Trump. It's not gonna work against Bernie.

I won't actually kill myself because I don't want to devastate my mother. I'll be meeting her tomorrow for coffee and cake, and then to go shopping. And I'm scared of attempting suicide and failing painfully. But I don't like it, and I hope a black hole eats the whole planet, so we can be equal in apocalyptic death.

it's disappointing, but it's not over. there's a movement building, the overton window has shifted to the left, and if the tories end up winning this, brexit is still going to dog them like it did with May - there's no squaring that circle, Johnson's deal is poo poo and it's going to cause huge problems, if he even gets it passed (when people don't need to pretend they support it anymore) it's going to be a protracted series of delays and failures. The transition period alone could be several years. The tories won't get an easy ride and we need to be ready for the next election

there was a huge community effort and positivity behind this campaign, and yeah it sucks how things ended up, but that hope and energy is real and it will grow. The deck is stacked, with Corbyn: Media Edition and Brexit creating stupid wildcard situations that meant there was no easy solution, no winning move, no obvious strategy to cut through. So, we need to build on this and take control, get people more engaged and politically aware

take care of yourself bud, have some personal time until it's not as raw - in some ways it's almost like we just didn't have the election, obviously losing seats is bad but it probably doesn't change the electoral calculus too much, as far as the tories being able to pass stuff? And the tories have at least committed to some investment and anti-austerity positions, which are poo poo but still better than nothing, and it's something people expect them to do now

I've been on and off suicidal for several months now. Let me tell you that the fact that you decided to post this here rather than bottle it up tells me that even if you don't beleive it right now you have immense strength inside of you. You know that you don't really want to die. If you have freinds that you trust go talk to them. If you cant trust your mom to help you talk to her about it. Get in contact with your GP tell them how you feel, get yourself on anti-depressants.

If things are really bad go down to the emergeny room and ask for an emergency mental health assesment. Not alot of people know you can do that.

Your pain is real, you're not alone and help is out there. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I think it's fair to say now that we definitely don't live in a democracy. The fact that a handful of billionaires are allowed to own practically the entirety of national and regional print media, and that broadcast news will uncritically amplify what they print, proves that your vote is worthless in the face of 40 years of white-supremacist, anti-intellectual poison poured down the ears of the general public. Only in a broken system can you persuade a populace screaming out for change and an improvement of life to vote for the maintaining of a status quo that wants to grind them into a bloody pulp. I don't know what you can call this system exactly, but it's definitely not democracy as voting won't change it. Only direct action can do so.
