alright, rap thread is doing it so i'm gonna start it up here too, everyone post your favorite albums of the decade. Did one for the rap thread so here’s one for the pop thread!! 01) Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion 02) Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated 03) Lorde - Melodrama 04) Grimes - Art Angels 05) Lady Gaga - ARTPOP 06) Charli XCX - Pop 2 07) Clarence Clarity - Think:Peace 08) HAIM - Days Are Gone 09) Lana Del Ray - Norman loving Rockwell! 10) Taylor Swift - Reputation I feel like a lot of the placements here would change daily but I’m sure about the CRJs at the top and about this as the 10 in general (with Lemonade, the Eilish album, and Dirty Computer right behind)

I’ve listened to Sweetener front to back more than thank u, next, even though thank u, next has more massive singles. Ari’s got three albums that almost made it up there just on the strength of the singles (thank u, next, Dangerous Woman, My Everything) but Sweetener tells a complete story and has a whole mood about it, which is something I really value in an album (see also: ARTPOP over other Gaga stuff) DC Murderverse fucked around with this message at 19:27 on Dec 12, 2019 |

Albums of the Decade: Janelle Monáe - Dirty Computer (shoutout to The ArchAndroid, but I've listened to Dirty Computer way more often) Lady Gaga - Born This Way (although I do like most of the first half of ARTPOP) Carly Rae Jepsen - E*MO*TION CHVRCHES - The Bones of What You Believe (although Every Open Eye has the best CHVRCHES song with 'Clearest Blue') Lorde - Melodrama Kesha - Rainbow Beyoncé - LEMONADE (although I do like BEYONCÉ a lot as well) CRJ - Dedicated The Adults - Haja (the frontman of my favourite band Shihad combines Sudanese music with Kiwi artists and producers. It's great and Shihad are criminally underrated)

mike12345 posted:Is Carly Rae Jepsen more of a US thing? I never heard of her. Carly Rae Jepsen's career has been a bit like Robyn. Big hit at the start of her career, released one of the undercover best pop albums of the decade, has since found success as an alternative pop star. Mega popular with the gays. Just listen to the opening of Run Away With Me and if that electric sax doesn't change your life then I don't know what will.

Speaking of Carly Rae Jepsen, she showed up as a surprise guest at a Jack Antonoff-curated event last night and sang an unreleased song with him: https://www.stereogum.com/2067874/carly-rae-jepsen-new-song-debut-ally-coalition/video/ I was covering the show for a friend's music website, so it was pretty cool to get to photograph Carly in a capacity other than that of an obsessive fan on the railing with my point-and-shoot: interpunct fucked around with this message at 16:41 on Dec 13, 2019 |

gandlethorpe posted:Mariah doesn't deserve the disrespect of this thread not acknowledging her legendary Hot 100 achievements. I don't know this forum. alright, now that Mimi is within one #1 hit of The Beatles I feel like it's inevitable that she's gonna make a few attempts at getting to 20. My question to you all is: How's she gonna do it? It's been over a decade since Touch My Body and the only time she's come close since then was #Beautiful with Miguel, so i feel like trying to team with a hot young artist might be the way it happens, but I could see her releasing a greatest hits with a new song from an old source and getting there, or maybe even trying to recreate the All I Want for Christmas magic in a few years. Honestly put her on a track with Swae Lee and watch it shoot right up there

She should just do a new jack swing album. Bruno re-opened that door anyway. At least just capitalize on 90s nostalgia.

are we doing end of the decade retrospectives yet? because i wish calvin harris died in the womb with all his imitators (every fifth person I've met this decade was lovely EDM DJ almost as boring as him) but ariana grande and ed sheeran are perfect geniuses (when Ed isn't wasting his time on ballads - if i wanted to hear lounge singing i'd be in a lounge) also if you told me Brenden Urie would be flying the P!ITD flag in the top forty ten years ago i'd have died laughing at you.

Utgardaloki posted:are we doing end of the decade retrospectives yet? counterpoint: We Found Love and Funk Wav Bounces are classics and well worth all the garbage EDM we drowned in towards the beginning of the decade, especially when you consider that pop music is always going to have a defining trend and if it weren't EDM it could have been something much, much stupider, like a return to when butt-rock had a home on top-40 stations. When I was a teenager I had to deal with garbage like loving Buckcherry and Lifehouse on the radio, i'll take a million terrible EDM DJs over that any day. Plus, even the most obnoxious EDM artists (which i believe has been statistically proven to be the Chainsmokers) can make a Roses on occasion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyASdjZE0R0 edit: i forgot about Hinder. EDM is the only thing that protected us from the return of Hinder, and god bless Calvin Harris for carrying its flag. DC Murderverse fucked around with this message at 06:36 on Dec 30, 2019 |
