I'm trying to think of an upside to the EXP globe thing. I guess since you have to get within AA range of an enemy inside of their minion wave to absorb the EXP from killing that wave you'll have more brawling in lane? If you manage to kill your lane opponent and no one rotates to replace them they likely won't make it back in time to get the EXP from that wave, but it's already like that so there's nothing new tactically from that. All I can really come up with is that by making picking up EXP a thing that requires active engagement you might actually get some of the morons in QM to soak some loving EXP finally.

Yeah it removes Abathur's ability to soak two lanes at once, which is one of his big strengths.

There’s a w-cancel trick that lets you get a little more dps out of the w that works well with the lvl 1 stutter step talent and the press 1 for more damage talent.

What do you mean by the w cancel trick? I got stutter stepping down pretty good with him.

So I admittedly haven’t played this dead rear end game in a while and when I do I just slam pick murky so I have no idea what’s going on in the meta or w/e but what problem is this xp globe change actually trying to solve?

One of the most common complaints about HOTS players is that they miss out on soak because laning is boring and starve their team of levels as a result. Changing XP from an invisible resource that you gather passively to a visible one that you have to actively gather will (in theory) better illustrate how important XP is and (ideally) encourage players to stop loving off to do something else.

However, what should be a simple dopamine manipulation tweak to an established system via adding better visual feedback is instead, for some reason, a total system overhaul that's probably going to gently caress over mages and other squishy types.

Short version: Mash the gently caress out of W and you can get about 20% increased DPS because Fenix's Weapon Mode was made poorly.

Deathwing is real fun. Feels good af to soar over the enemy team with his ult, then turn around and barf fire all over them.

Good addition to the game, feels nice to have a truly unique character again instead of another burst damage assassin.

Characters that will eat Deathwing going forward:

Anyone with %damage or an ability that scales off health (Tychus, Malth, Greymane)

Leoric: Apparently the tomb ult will block DW. His only escape at that point is popping his ult or dragon flight, and if you take the silence at 20 he's pretty screwed.

Deathwing is a stupid LOL ADC hero, of course he's fun to play. Everyone likes being the boss. He's no more vulnerable to percentage health dealers than anyone else, and has plenty of mobility and CC to deal with them. And anyone else gets stomped. The real question is why play anything else.

The XP globes are a good idea but they're implemented really poorly because the collection range is like a quarter of what it was before, which has had all sorts of rebalancing effects hitting the already heavily nerfed ex-specialists.

I really don't think he has "plenty of mobility". The guy is really slow and has very little to get outside the range of attacks once they start.

His attacks are very slow and have a lot of wind-up. He's not like Qhira who can just dive in, gently caress poo poo up, and lol as she runs away with more health than she entered. Doing real heavy damage with him requires a good amount of foresight.

Also he is objectively more susceptible to %damage heroes than many others because of the way his health regen works. If you can whittle him down he becomes much less intimidating, and once he's in his final tier of health he has to play extremely conservatively.

Didn't think about this but you're absolutely right. Doesn't even need to be used in combat, hide in a bush and health swap him and he's basically out of commission, I think in those situations it might actually be better for the DW player to just suicide rather than try and claw back to full health.

Repeater build Fenix with the %hp talent absolutely melts Deathwing, more than any other hero I've seen so far.

But 2 heroes I've found are really great in QM (aka Deathwing v. Deathwing mode) because they do well against DW and also synergize with your own-

Leoric: drain does big damage to DW, and then mithril mace + %hp damage gives you additional sustained damage and big heals. The rage cage is like soft CC on DW, and hitting multiple enemies with it also gives your own DW a nice target to annihilate since all his skills are aoe.

Nazeebo: Zombies are functionally identical to the cage- traps their DW and lets yours unload on him. Slap ghost gets some good value since DW is mostly unable to get away from it, and enemies will be too focused on your DW to hit you out of it.

Also people keep picking Artanis which is funny because attempting to swap DW just puts you directly in front of him without moving him at all.

The 20 upgrade is useless against Deathwing, Unstoppable blocks Silence.

Also if he's in Destroyer form he can just E straight through you and leave.

DW feels incredibly clunky. Like if you build an entire team around maximizing stuns or whatever I'm sure he shines but otherwise it's almost impossible to hit anything but the slowest and dumbest players. The wind ups are just too long and not being able to pivot during fire breath means all you're really getting out of it is ok to decent wave clear.

I wish there was more distinction between forms too. Red icons then hit a red button to get 3 more red icons....everything is red.

Kinda wish there was a talent that gets rid of permanent unstoppable but reduces all your windup poo poo by like 80% and let's you spin when breathing fire.

You get more out of it than that. It's a giant area-denial tool. There are plenty of times players have to be certain locations to contest objectives/secure kills/etc in this game. That's part of the fun of the character, finding opportunities when players will have to choose between walking through the wall of fire or abandoning their goals..

It was a shame how he carried on
I've played a few games against him and they were rear end beatings. I played frog nazeebo and got all 5 frogs to hit him almost every time.

He's slow, super predictable, and has a huge hit box. Short of having a well coordinated team with him I think he's garbo. Look forward to more free wins unless he's on my team.

All this means is that you can build against him by picking the handful of heroes whose abilities aren't rendered impotent by him. QM is filled with Nazeebo right now for exactly that reason. That's just dumb balancing.

From the AMA, a question about crazy things we never saw:

quote:

My favorite was when we had the Hero Buyback system.

This was wayyyyyyyyy back in the day, pre Alpha, when we had Gold, before the talent system that we have today.

Basically you could spend a relatively small amount of Gold, and at any time during the game you could completely switch your hero.

Entire metas were based around this, where, for example, you could play as Zagara in the beginning stages of the game to bully your opponent, then switch to Valla or Zeratul midway through for a power spike, then in the end game go to someone tanky like Arthas for the final few teamfights.

Entire metas were developed around this, and we actually had it in for a long time. It was wild.

Edit: Oh, and we once had a map that was entirely circular, with both Cores in the middle left and right parts of the map. It was appropriately called Crazy Town.

Getting the final hit always gave EXP, just outside of rare exceptions people weren't gonna notice it. Abathur could have theoretically soaked three lanes using mines.
