Ok so I'm not the only one that thought this.

They also did pretty much every tired movie trope that died circa 98. Like the only reason I can go to the theater nowadays is because we left a lot of that poo poo behind but no now the T Rex is mugging for the loving camera.

Yea, it's really weird. If we had some Nedry character that got hosed it would at least make sense for the shot.

The movie has pretty much been forgotten, even the 3 raptors meme has vanished from the internet.

twistedmentat posted:

Why does the death of the assistant shot in a way she deserved it? She was never cruel to the kids or anything, but nope, she's eaten by a mosaraur in the way a villain would be.

I think in earlier cuts of the film she tried to ditch the kids at the first sign of trouble or something, so the torture porn death was more deserved, then they cut those scenes, but left the kill in because reasons? I don't know, it was a bad movie.

I always suspected that might have been what happened.

My hopes is they release a Max Level with full Raid Gear Mandalorian that comes with the Baby Yoda.

THIS WAS SO GOOD

goddamn. Deborah Chow had the best episodes of the season imo and I can't wait for whatever she does with that obi won show. This episode felt like such a payoff while also raising the stakes. Great dramatic tension with the heavy lifting being done by good character work, contrast that with the non-stop explosion ROTS trailer at the end which looks firmly 'ok'

So I am watching this show, and it is boring? I don't know why, it just feels like there are no stakes in it. I mean stuff is happening, AT-ST walkers and shooty shooty smashy smashy but I am watching it and it just feels like a drag.

That was pretty intense, huh?

Ok, that was easily the best episode of the season, hands down. Easily tops the third episode. And fuuuck, that lead up to the finale. The drama and stakes, jfc. Deborah Chow owns and has me confident that the Kenobi series is gonna be something real special. Her episodes are leagues above the rest of the others this season.

[edit] Also, am I crazy or was Gina Carano's acting way better in this one? It's like she felt more comfortable in the role now. Loved her all her banter.

Do you think they let Werner Herzog write his own lines?

Is it weird that the thing that blew my mind the most was the TIE Fighter with folding wings?

What was the RotS tie-in supposed to have been?

WE MUST RETURN TO THE DANCE! THE NIGHT IS OURS!

That was some good rear end Star Wars, so much better than the middle of the season imo. In hindsight some of the weaker episodes were needed to introduce characters like Cara. I love the whole getting the gang back together trope in almost anything so i was super happy when i realised that's where they were heading. I knew once Giancarlo Esposito got into the mix things would start to get super serious very fast but also the quality of the story would jump up and it's great to see that happen. That folding Tie was dope.

It'll hopefully will make up for the disappointment that ROTS will likely be anyway.

edit: also really glad IG-11 is back, hoping he'll earn Mando's trust and next season will be a permanent companion

This is Star Wars now, not the films.

Calling it now, cliffhanger where despite his most heroic efforts baddies abscond with The Child and the whole drat world has to hold its breath for months and months tweeiting "don't u dare hurt him" at the showrunners.

Yeah, I've been thinking they might do that too. I really hope they don't though, it was sad enough when he got taken away for just a few minutes. That little cry and drooped ears still haunts me.

It's storytelling 101, but nevertheless the set ups from earlier in the season and payoffs are satisfying. Mando's friends he made along the way team up with him. Doing horrific flamethrower violence in front of the child and showing the reaction shot of the flame reflected in his eyes sets up him using the force in a harmful way when Space Dad isn't winning a friendly contest of strength. The Child finally doesn't get rebuked trying to heal someone and it works, and wins over the dude from springing his incredibly obvious (come on Mando, it was obvious from the jump) trap.

I'm really bummed that The Client is out of the picture. Herzog stole every scene as a grubby die-hard bureaucrat trying to hold his piece of the Empire together solely by delivering every sentence as a veiled, menacing threat.

Not to get too POLITICS but I really felt he was channeling every clueless affluent neolib technocrat when he started talking about how ~by the metrics~ the Empire improved things across the board.

"The Space Dow Jones is up! The Markets are doing well! Coaxium production is booming! 95% of households have high-speed Holonet! What is there to complain about?"
