At this point our only chance is to become the kind of totalitarian military state they think we are. I say we push the Conservatives into relaxing gun laws and try to get ahead of the gammon gun owners with new left wing militias.

Or just calm the heck down and rebuild the party like the Tories had to under Blair.

The likely possibility for PR is Labour, Lib Dems and Greens all pledging to do it when next in power. It can't be a big platform though because it not particularly popular outside of wonk circles.

It makes sense for Labour now because of the loss of Scotland and the ex-industrial seats, while Labour is getting huge majorities in cities. PR would make it worth running up the score there

Dog Therapy: Shockingly Good
No it's fine because by leaving the EU we'll escape all the eco-fascism and migrant crackdowns that are coming in the next ten years from climate refugees.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/dec/18/europe-humanitarian-crisis-brussels-refugees

quote:

Once I passed the official barracks that house officials from the Greek ministry of citizen protection, I was met with rows of tents, halls, housing made of plastic – it looked like a construction site. And then I became aware of the smell, the result of people crowded in small spaces with limited access to sanitation. Beyond the confines of the actual camp, there was even more chaos, with homemade tents and piles of garbage.

At night, I am told, the situation becomes worse. Women are being raped. Rather than using the communal washrooms, some women wear nappies so they can stay in their tents. And every night, someone is stabbed, someone’s property is stolen.

The lack of a proper processing system has created a state of dreadful limbo, where people live in horrendous conditions without an end in sight. Some have been waiting more than two years to receive news about their asylum application.

The doctors working in the camp, of which there are too few, tell me that the physical and mental repercussions are dire. People are living too close to each other for years at a time, often without enough food, or access to medical services and basic sanitation. This is a humanitarian crisis and it is happening on European soil. Standing in that camp, listening to people tell me their stories, I could not feel proud to be European.

How could I be proud to be European – or even worse, proud to be a European representative – when I am standing idly by while people are dying avoidably, right here in Europe? The very place that pledges to become a leader in digital technology is also the continent that allows people to starve and die only five hours from Brussels.

I felt helpless when they asked me what the plan was. Sometimes I thought about explaining how things work within the European commission, the parliament, or why member states couldn’t agree on a negotiation approach – but then I stopped.

They were asking me in the name of the boy who had died a week before from fever after being denied proper medical care; in the names of the 1,200 unaccompanied minors who were sleeping on the ground below the olive trees.

That’s when it really dawned on me: Europe did not have a plan. And it was the first time I truly felt ashamed of being European. So I’m asking myself now: what’s the plan, Europe? Every night we don’t address the situation, another woman is likely to get raped, another child might die and another person will get stabbed.

Can't corral immigrants into camps if the fugees can't reach you *children of men but the tapping head meme*

(Nobody, but nobody has a plan for what to do when the current 'trickle' of refugees becomes a torrent. Socialism or Barbarism, baby.)

I can't tell who said what here, if "being a son" is meant to be "having a son" or if the only thing said was "If you didn't have a Tory Dad you would have been on the streets" and I have no idea what led up to this in the argument. This is probably not the best place to get confirmation whether or not your father is being actually abusive in a political argument, or whether your dad feels disrespected by something you've said and this is more of a "if it weren't for me providing for you, you wouldn't have eaten" etc etc. Not stanning anyone, just I'm a dad and have a dad and have had arguments in both positions! AND have said poo poo like "watch your tone, I'm owed more respect than that" etc.

They basically knew they had Labour safe, so it was all party apparatchiks that were selected in the Blair years.
Same issue as Wales.

There's some good socialists making more waves now, but in many seats, if you vote Labour instead of SNP, you might risk the Tories, and the SNP are more left than the ScotLab blairites.

Desolation Radio also made the point that we are in an unusual phase in British politics where the radical left is throwing its weight behind the Labour party and electoralism - in Scotland the SNP and independence in general has captured a lot of that energy.

It remains to be seen whether people in England are gonna move onto something else as well, I guess it depends on how the leadership battle shakes out.
