But, I would have also changed that Leia is the one that light speed jumps the ship as well. That could also have been the trigger of Luke coming out of hiding.

It's not like people loved Luke's arc in TLJ, the overall reaction was pretty mixed (although I personally liked it). Having TLJ end on the throne room and Luke being forced to come out of retirement to redeem both of his students in TROS would've probably been an improvement.

Yeah I liked what they did with him just would have rather not had his resolution be wrapped up in 10 minutes.

This is retreading old ground, but what if Finn was actually someone who had gotten his hands dirty (outside of janitorial work) and done some bad things that he felt like he needed to atone for? What was even the point of him being ex-Stormtrooper besides some very minor narrative convenience in the first movie?

Would have been great.

It looked like his original story arc was to go from that to a Rebel leader but instead Poe got the becoming a rebel leader arc in TLJ.

Further narrative convenience in the following movie, when he knows all about the tracking devices on the First Order flagship

It's about time for my once per decade ban for being a consistently terrible poster.
I like how the Mandalorian does more to present the post-Empire Imperial position, and because it's delivered by Werner loving Herzog it's better acted than anything in the movies too.

Madness.

On Rose, I have heard several takes on why she was introduced.

1) China
2) Because they didn't want the assumption Poe and Finn were gay

To me it looked like they didn't want a romance between a black man and white woman in the movies and she was being set up as his romantic interest. Anyone know what was the reason?

I thought the reviews had prepared me for how bad this movie was going to be. I was wrong. Mostly really liked TFA, loved TLJ, but this was terrible. Just a plethora of awful decisions that only got stupider as it went on.

The moment that broke me, that I hadn’t read about anywhere, was young Luke and Leia doing Jedi training with CGI young Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher faces. I cannot believe this was allowed.

e: where did “sheev” come from anyway?

According to Rian Johnson, initially in early drafts Poe and Finn both went to casino planet, but because they "were too similar" and "the same character" (? how?), they needed to split them up and thus created Rose, who being different would actually have a character dynamic with Finn.

Or have Kylo turn his back on the dark side and help Rey/Luke fight back the First Order assault. Then Palpatine could be teased at the end as the real threat they have to face.

Just something other than what they ended up doing which was changing nothing.

I still don't get the decision. They have the best chemistry together of all the characters. The scene of them escaping in the Tie Fighter in TFA is probably the best scene in that movie.

Splitting them up for the rest of the movies is the dumbest idea ever.

I honestly thought that Finn had an interesting thing in TFA, it's just that they took an interesting if somewhat sanitized start then decided to do absolutely gently caress all to build upon anything with him while still wanting to give him lots of screen time.

RJ seems like a decent enough guy, but his admission that he couldn’t write scenes for Poe and Finn together seemed like a powerful self-own

I agree with you, but we didn't make the movie did we? I am still really confused as to how Poe and Finn are the same. As you say, they have good chemistry, but they are clearly different people and would bounce off each other well on a caper.

But Rian disagreed (or this is his explanation for a decision he didn't make and he has to come up with something) and so Rose was created.

Then binned for this film after copping abuse online. Poor Kelly Marie Tran, she deserved better.
