The funny part is that Frasier tries to meet the guy halfway, presumably knowing a thing or two about arbitrary standards, while still being quickly exasperated.

I put season 1 on for background noise again, it seems so different to the later seasons episodes in that a lot of stuff just... Doesn't get resolved by the end of the episode in any real way. I guess the steak restaurant one is the best example, Martin just straight up tells the Crane Boys they're shitheads and their own mother would be ashamed were she alive. Not that they didn't deserve it, but it just basically ends there, like a lot of the early Martin plotlines. They do acknowledge this in the episode where Martin and Frasier actually have a conversation and Martin points out it takes time for people to establish a working relationship, which was a nice touch.

Also not just letting David Hyde Pierce have 3 minutes of physical comedy every episode is a crime! :colbert:

What other streaming services have it?

This is intolerable! I’ve only just learned how to persuade Netflix that I am in the continental United States, and now they pull the rug from under my feet like this.

I’ve a good mind to write a strongly worded letter to their board of directors.

No idea of what'll happen with amazon and Hulu in 2020 but at least for now there's hope:

They used to have these things called DVDs and they were great, you’d pay money once to own something forever and it wouldn’t expire or become inaccessible based on licensing changes. You could even access the episodes as digital files by transferring them from the physical media to a computer hard drive!

Of course they went obsolete when they were replaced with- nothing? Okay, uh, well now I just pay a steaming service for- hey where’s it going? So all that money I spent and I own none of the episodes? Okay, well maybe one of these other corporations will have mercy on me and take my money every month in exchange for having these shows available for a little while longer (duration undetermined) before pulling them again for no conceivable reason. I just hope I’m living in the right country- but hey, I totally get it- buying rights to show shows in Canada is so expensive it’s usually not worth it for these big companies, so I understand paying to not have the episodes.

This is great! This is great!

I've worked for two Starbucks locations and nobody gave a poo poo what you called the sizes. Large, Venti, 20 oz., whatever. This had to be one of the single dumbest cultural fixations of the 90s.

Someone find that tweet where the guy throws away all his Disney DVDs and calls them obsolete now that he has Disney+, then the tweet immediately following where he’s complaining that he can’t pair any of his devices to his Disney account.

I agree, but, God drat, Freddie episodes suck (outside of the Thanksgiving one). The better physical comedy in a Christmas episode is Perspectives on Christmas, from season 5; Pierce delivers a master class in physical comedy with the bit in the elevator.

Frasier had some good Christmas episodes, but when they were bad, they were fuckin' bad. Miracle on Third or Fourth Street is when they were still finding their footing, so I can forgive the schmaltz, but it still isn't very good. Then there's Frasier Grinch, which is just sort of ... there. We Two Kings is also mediocre (though it has a magnificent delivery of "Don't tell me there's no cocoa... :(" from Mahoney).

And every last bit of film used to shoot Mary Christmas should be burned.

It would have been better if they hadn't made the guy in the diner a weird Brooklyn stereotype. "Eyy, dis is the time a' year when even bums like us can have a merry Christmas. The rest a' da year, we're on a one-way trip to Palookaville, amirite?" And it's like, where exactly in Seattle is this taking place?
