Pretty certain Mrs. Oda eventually took him back once he stopped writing poo poo about her and the family and instead started making bank on Tohru-kun. In this timeline I'm certain the comic will just bomb and it instead ends with Oda and Tohru resenting each other and that way leads to self defence.

It's actually a smart thing for him to still be lovely about. Many of his experiences has made Tohru grow and change his attitude, but I don't think there's anything that's challenged his views on women or intergender value and respect. Hopefully that's the case and it's not an expression of the author's distastes.
