I'm disgusted you'd waste time on this nonsense".

Oh, that's right, I mentioned it in here before:

He actually reported people for voting against his preferred scenario because he is a genuinely terrible human being, who later ragequit mid-scenario because he was playing so goddamn awful he nearly got a Big Important Character killed by being an inveterate coward.

There's a pastebin, which I can't find now, of his 'antics' where he goes to great lengths to suck himself off about how great he is at Battletech, but that's not very interesting to read if you're not already very interested in Battletech.

He really loved using big words to sound smart as well. Sanguine has become a thread in-joke because of this.

Get bashed, platonist!

Here’s one for the forums historians.

quote:

Hello everyone, I hope you have had a happy holiday season.

One of the challenges that the mod team had faced recently is that mods, as unpaid volunteers, sometimes get drawn away from the forums by real life. That’s fine! That’s great! Unfortunately, it becomes inconvenient when something flares up in a way that is urgent, and the mod responsible for that forum is unavailable. For similar reasons, the admins are not on call 24/7 either.

In the new year, the mod and admin team are going to try something new to help with this: we’re reinstating the old Something Awful position of Super Mod.

What is a Super Mod?
Basically they’re a forums-wide IK, a kind of half-step between an mod and an admin. They have the same buttons that IKs have for all forums and as such can lend a hand with modding when necessary.

What do they do?
Much like IKs, they're here to help the normal, full time mods. They won’t be setting policy or rules in any subs other than the ones they mod on a day to day basis. They won’t be handing out the heaviest of punishments, although they do have a bit more discretion on how long a probation to issue than an IK. Ideally you won’t see them at all. They’re there to pop in and deal with sudden issues that need immediate attention. Long term solutions are still up to the full time mod when they are available.

How many will there be? Who are they?
Right now we have two lined up. More may come in the future but we think this should cover us for now. Cyrano4747 (mod of Science, Academics, and Languages and The Firing Range) and Reene (Games) have both accepted the positions. They are both already very active in the mod forum and have shown a lot of willingness to work with other mods on complex issues in the past.

Day to day none of you should really notice too much of a difference. But, if a thread is starting to spiral and one of these two come by and ask people to calm down and lower the temperature until the regular mod can be reached, treat them like you would any IK in a similar situation.

I’m glad Renee is now a Super Mod, they’re cool. I think they’ll be a big help for [thing we can’t talk about here anymore] :silent:. I must admit, I don’t really understand the difference between a super mod and an admin. It seems like a super mod is just a reserve admin.

It's a baby admin, like how IKs are baby mods. They don't have access to the panel nor the ability to approve any mod queue punishments outside of those available to standard moderators. They'll typically defer to the "real" moderators of a subforum outside of emergent situations, and ideally they never have to flex their powers at all, but they're there to help handle crises cross-forums when necessary.

I’m not quite sure what “no access to the panel” means as, having never been a mod or admin, I don’t really know what the panel is or does. Does that mean that they can’t probate or ban people?

Also, if they can’t approve punishments outside of those available to standard moderators, does that mean they can only approve sixers? As far as I know that’s the only kind of punishment mods can approve.

Ok, I get it now. I’m not sure why I didn’t get that from “forums-wide IK” as that’s pretty much the long and short of it.

That would make sense, a lower-traffic subforum would logically see less mod burnout. Still impressive that slowbeef rivaled their tenure despite modding what was once one of the most prolific parts of the site during much busier times.

Oh, sorry :downs: The administrative panel is what is used for editing subforums, changing user names and avatars, uploading images and smilies, adding and removing mods and IKs, assigning non-standard thread tags -- etc -- pretty much everything an admin does that a mod can't gets done through the panel. As per the name only admins have access to it.

Regarding sixers Jeffrey just changed the code so that mods and supermods autoapprove punishments up to three days.

I think they're just sticking with their current stars. :)

e: it occurred to me that since "panel" was something that I didn't even think to explain, I will also clarify that most mods only have powers in their specific home forums. Is that standard knowledge? This account can only issue probations etc in PYF and PI, so that's why when you see me ban people in other forums it's on the admin one. The supermods get buttons in all of the forums, like admins do, rather than in only their home forums like standard mods. That's the super bit.

That's correct, Tunicate. They're still only primary mods of their own forums, but they're available now to put out fires in other subs when the appropriate mods and/or the admins aren't around.
