Trypophobia, actually it originated on this very website when someone made a thread in gbs about how lotus seed pods are gross looking.

Sounds like the story they talked about where the guy in Arizona got arrested for loving a 28 year old man who he thought was a 13 year old kid living with him. The 28 year old was also enrolled in school and the teachers said he was a good kid, if bored. Because he was a 28 year old man in middle school.

Sadly it looks earnest and "uplifting" instead of being a pitch-black comedy.

And your remembered story reminds me of the dueling "Who's ____________ harder?" stories about the Wisconsin principal caught in a hotel bed with two students, and the guy who rolled through a teen girl's funeral groping the sister and showing phone porn to the mom.

Some well deserved recognition.

https://uproxx.com/life/best-podcasts-of-the-decade-2010s/

quote:

Jonathan Larroquette and Seth Romatelli of Uhh Yeah Dude have spent the past 700 plus episodes dishing out advice, shooting the poo poo about USA Today Snapshots and news, and ranting about the big moments and trivialities of life. The show is a foundational example of the comedy podcast wherein two smart friends riff while recording. Over the years, that format has spawned a million imitators.

As they record more and more episodes, the duo has grown to become the old friends that listeners rely on for a no-nonsense point of view and maybe even a little advice. Jonathan and Seth started recording episodes back in 2006 and have consistently put out a great show pretty much every week, ad-free, since then. Don’t forget, “seat belts.”

I know we have discussed this a load of times in this thread. UYD is impossible to describe in an appealing way. If I just cold read that blurb there is no way I would listen to that podcast.

Well done for getting the shout out though. I still feel like uyd is in that "hidden gem" category.

764 delivers on both!

It's tough to describe for sure but I think so many comedy podcasts have taken a page or two from UYD's book that it's no longer the impossible sell that it once was. The example I always like to use is Justin and Griffin of MBMBaM both name-dropping the boys on several occasions. Heck, when Griffin gets annoyed about something he immediately slips into an annoyed Seth impersonation.

I mean, there are always some annoying fans at UYD live shows. But UYD doesn't have a large podcast franchise that's nigh inseparable from "geek culture" and that already makes it two shades more tolerable.

I went to the Boston show back in 2011 or thereabouts and the show itself was pretty funny. The crowd wasn't annoying or anything. I don't remember at all what types of people were there though.

I caught Jonathan's live stream before they recorded yesterday. It's kind of like a little mini bonus segment. I know they've done it before, but I don't know if they do it before every episode. I asked if there was a bunch of unused footage from the 124-126 filmed episodes and he said he has all of it.

The McElroys plight is to make a living doing comedy podcasts for a fandom whose loudest elements despise most of the elements we’d traditionally identify as “comedy”

I keep thinking of a bit and I'm hoping someone can help me find it. They were talking about a bunch of movies (could have been a blacklist segment?) and Seth naturally kept getting more angry about any movies with supernatural elements. Until he broke into song!

He goes into some weird singing and the part I remember clearly is: "Monsters and al-i-ens don't exist."
Maybe zombies and aliens.

I need this. Please, thread.

Listening to 764 and I would totally give this "realtor on the edge has to sell a haunted house or lose her job" screenplay a watch if they flipped said script and made it a dark comedy or something in the vein of Mouse Trap. In fact I feel like that movie may already exist in the form of the Eddie Murphy Haunted Mansion movie from Disney, which I haven't actually seen.
