I dislike Lorenz enough at first brush that I've slated him for benching, except adjutant duty to build up to A support with Hilda. "What if Sylvain, without the depth or intelligence?" is rubbing me the wrong way - Sylvain really is surprisingly smart in the Azure Moon story if you pay attention, I think he's the most tactics-and-strategy minded of the Blue Lions surprisingly enough. Nah, Claude's arguably the worst of all of them. Given on every route he just fucks off back to Almyra and on VW leaves all of Fodlan under the control of someone who knows two things 1)Fishing, 2)Murder. Claude is just boring. If he had been the viewpoint Avatar character nothing would really change because he is also the outsider with no real connections to events at large just along for the ride. I didnt read that 20 paragraph of edelgard defense post because lol.

I find Sylvain worse because he actually hates women and frequently goes out of his way to mistreat them, whereas Lorenz is a run-of-the-mill dipshit. To clarify: Sylvain is a well written character, its just at this point in my life I'm fed up with men who hurt the women around them because of their own issues, and being expected to sypathize with them.

Characters are good in direct proportion to the number of redemptive arcs they have. This is why Dimitri is the best house leader, but even he pales in comparison to the game’s most compelling character: Lorenz, for whom every single support conversation has him rise above “obnoxious, arrogant jerk” to the heights of “slightly less obnoxious but still arrogant jerk”

His hauntings are a manifestation of his survivor's guilt because he lives while all the people he cares about is dead. When he is afraid of Rodrigue haunting him this is because he cares for him as a person. By your standard, any time a person in mourning thinks about how they'll have to carry their grief for the rest of their lives, they're being selfish and don't wish for their loved one to return because human beings can only have one facet of their emotions. That was one of the worst examples of bad faith mental gymnastics I've seen in the thread

i'm glad the agarthans don't get more screen time, or otherwise the part where they're the original inhabitants of fodlan and either the nabateans or the 'normal' humans did a colonialism would be clearer and that would make them way more sympathetic than they're obviously supposed to be, given that their role in the plot is 'evil dubstep wizards'.
