Can someone help me figure out what to do with my freshly-minted first-ever-level-50 Rad/Fire farmer? I'm more interested in getting him set up with a level-appropriate build that
A.) frees up the IOs he was using to level for my other characters,
B.) doesn't cost so much that the time it saves (relative to a bare-bones build) won't require 20+ hours of farming before it actually pays for itself,
...with maybe the ancillary goal of C.) can be set up in one fell swoop because respecs seem hard to come by and I don't want to burn more than I have to.

I looked up a few builds and the "cheap but still effective" one I found had the full ATO set, two purple sets, four full Aegis sets and 5 LotGs, which ha ha ha okay I only have about 30mil to start with here buddy. Plus side they didn't seem to be taking Incarnate stuff into account, so I'm hoping that'll help me economize.

Edit: I don't know if this actually poses an interesting question for folks who know all this stuff down cold already. I'm just stymied by being caught between needing to farm in order to get the pieces I need to farm efficiently and not wanting to waste a million respecs slooowly improving piecemeal.

All you really need to run a fire farm at +4/x8 is maxed fire resist and defense. If you want to get there by buying insps instead of building for it, you'll have a much more tedious experience, but it can be done. What you lose out on is being able to combine all insps into reds for pure murder speed, and not having to make sure you keep your defense up (if you don't, you can die right quick).

I used to farm on a fire/fire with a general IO build and lots of purple insps. I found farming fun so I rolled a spines/fire optimized for farming. Then I discovered afk farming and built another spines/fire on a second account. Now I can park two brutes in a cave map full of patrols and come back an hour later to collect a bunch of inf.

As far as trying to do it on 30 million goes, I just dragged out the fire/fire and ran a farm map with her. 5 million (not including drops) in 11 minutes. You're rad/fire so unless your build *really* sucks you should already be better than she was, fire melee isn't great aoe. (For comparison, my spines/fire did it in 7:30, which is no speed record either). So, you should easily be able to make another 30 million in an hour of farming. More if purples/pvps drop or if you are on HC and know how to make money from crafting/converting/selling your drops.

If your other characters are that much more important you could keep farming on a cheap build forever. Just keep buying whatever size lucks you need to get your fire defense to 45 in advance so you can always load up and go again.

tl;dr 30 million is an hour's worth of farming on a crap build and respecs are about a million on HC, so two minutes = a respec.

edit: also, unslotters are 150k on HC. I take advantage of that a lot. And common IOs I don't bother to save, I'll just overwrite them with IOs. Commons are essentially free if you have farmer-level income available.

I'm afraid that's the situation I'm in; I don't really even *have* a build except poo poo I took and slotted while levelling.

A quick shot at the Comic Con outdoor map at +4/x8 got me about 3.6mil in 16 minutes, and I pretty much have to gulp down purples as fast as I can combine 3-ofs. The fact that I'm performing *that* far below par is what made me feel like I need to do some optimizing.

Run it at +0/x8 with no bosses. Kill poo poo quicker and easier with just as many recipe drops. Then make & sell the IOs. Use converters to reroll anything that doesn't go for at least 1 mil (type-convert uncommons to rares, then rarity-convert the rares if they're too cheap). Reroll purples aiming for the ones worth 25M, it takes fewer converters than you'd think. You'll be a billionaire before you know it.

Edit: +0 and not -1 because you want them to be 50 and not 49. They need to be 50 to drop PVPs and purples.

Yeah this. +0/8 gets you more poo poo over time than +4/8.

Be sure and run the level 49 map if you are 50, it auto-exemps you down, you still get purples and more influence.

You add +'s and bosses in when you start clearing the place really fast. It's yet more raw influence.

Like, I can complete the entire 5 map blitz of the Comic Con fire farm map in 15 minutes at +4/X8 with bosses.

I feel like I knew this at one point, but got suckered into slowly cranking up the difficulty even when it started ruining my efficiency. Y'know what it is, is all the farm maps say things like "run it with bosses and +4 difficulty!" "don't forget to set it to +4".

Edit: Come to think of it, would someone mind taking a look at this Mids build and seeing if it looks like a good starting point for a 'budget' Rad/Fire build? If so I figure it makes more sense to hold on to the set pieces I already have rather than selling now + rebuying later. :shobon:

It looks mostly fine, but I'd make the following changes:

Fusion - make this 1 slot with just the gaussian's build-up proc, you aren't getting much from the full set here. (+5 slots)
Boxing - add two slots, fill it with 3 of the Stagger set, you just got back the fire def you pulled from Fusion. (-2 slots)
Weave, Maneuvers - Add one slot each. Give them a lotg +def, or just a generic def to be cheap. You now have actual softcapped fire def instead of just close. (-2 slots)
Stamina - Put another slot here for a generic end IO. Why do people always underslot stamina, I never have enough recovery, especially on a brute. (-1 slot)
Super Jump - I'd drop this for Tactics with a Adjusted tohit/end. Who the hell needs a travel if you're never leaving AE?
Rest - is the end mod here just a joke or what

Edit: Checking again, you don't need the def in maneuvers to still reach 45%. Instead you could maybe throw a recharge in Fusion, or if you still experience end issues, a Panacea in Health.

How would they even know considering how laggy and chaotic mother ship raids are? If they stayed at RWZ HQ the whole time maybe, but who bothers paying that much attention?

MSRs are run almost nightly on Everlasting. I did one, and was bored shitless throughout. Finishing that created the kind of constipated relief you feel when you finally finish a Synapse, maybe even moreso.

If you just want the Merits and XP, then join a league, help kill the pylons and plant bombs, join everyone in the bowl, then surf porn in another tab for twenty minutes (or, god forbid, read a book or something). Because everyone is getting 2 frames per second, no one will know.

As for Synapse, they seriously need to cut that poo poo in half. It's the longest and most boring TF in the game (except for Dr. Q, but that's not needed for any accolades so the only reason to run it is masochism).

Homecoming has lots of people and goon server is lucky to have more than single digit players on at once.

You can convert shards to threads but not the other way around, but anything you can make with shards you can make more efficiently with threads. Assuming you are trying to make alpha stuff, scroll down on the crafting menu to see the thread options for shard stuff. Took me forever to see that.

I've had some good usage in using shards ONLY to jumpstart the post uncommon alpha stuff. The prices are goddamned horrible for early stuff, but just using shards I happened to have for my first Rare let me get Rare Alpha before even unlocking my judgment slot, let alone my 3rd incarnate level for the first gift package. But yeah, threads otherwise.

I can't blame people for being scared off entirely from shards though, because those "Common to uncommon" prices are fuckin absurd. What was it, 20+ shards worth of materials to go from common to uncommon if you just wanted to throw shards at the problem, compared to doing a weekly TF once for a Favor plus 8 shards worth of components to go from Uncommon to Rare?

Trying to use shards seriously would make me want to kill myself. But it was nice to realize I could get over the "Uncommon -> Rare" Alpha hump with essentially pocket change from the vestigial currency.

Yeah, this is the trick. Using shards for Alpha, as painful as it can be, means you can jumpstart your other slots a lot faster because you're not blowing your early empyreans on it.

But I also wouldn't blame anyone just saying gently caress it and grinding extra hard to get the remaining merits/components they need instead of dealing with shards at all.

That's why even I still used Not Shards for my common and Uncommon, because anything but the jump to rare is a real ballbuster Shard style ingredients wise. While 8 shards + Favor (And you want to run weekly TFs anyway, right?) you'll inevitably have basically by accident is no fuss just to bump it up to Rare.

I was worried I had hosed up somehow on a few alts, until I kept seeing people screeching in help chat about how Vet level 3 and spending your loot was "Faster than shards" for your Rare Alpha. Because (the tail end of) Vet level 2 is faster than Vet level 3 :pseudo: Then I got to slam dunk my freebie emps into other slots :buddy:

I'm convinced the origins of "NO JUST DESTROY ALL SHARDS!" reactions are from people who got burnt by trying to go all in on shards, which is a real kick in the dick if you've spent the grand total of something like 30? :wtc: shards. only to be reminded too late "Oh yeah, you can just smash threads into the alpha now."
