Legislation would be required to formally boot the US. And the forces agreement deal has a one year lead time, IIRC, for US forces to leave. Of course Iraq could say “gently caress that, deal is canceled, get out faster,” but presumably there are monetary or other carrots that Iraq would forego if it broke a one year timeline agreement. There are likely a lot of ways Iraq could honor a one year timeline but just make everything a pain in the rear end such that it’s less trouble to get most forces out faster anyway.
