question for the thread: is 6 underground genuine fascism or is it satire? most of it is straight enough but there are just a couple things keeping it on the edge. obviously the civilian casualties of the protagonists but also the evil dictator using US manufactured chemical weapons dropped from f-16s. the hilariously optimistic civilian rebellion and statue destruction montage seems like pretty pointed criticism of the Iraq war buildup

When I saw season one I was astounded it was a product of that channel. The best stuff they’ve ever done up until then was Channel Zero and, gloss aside, those shows are powerfully mediocre unless you have the right kind of eyes to see them. Also the last season was amazing house porn for a couple who lives now, and will probably forever live, in lovely overpriced apartments.

Its fine but it's got two main problems, the first being that doing le Carre with the slow pace it deserves means that the plot is practically incomprehensible in a two hour run time if you're not paying very close attention (or have read the book); also Gary Oldman is really good but he's way too charismatic to be Smiley imo. That said it's very well acted and shot and the story's still good so it's worth watching even if it's not as good as it could have been

Considering all the teen dystopian sci fi movies about overthrowing an evil government, I'm still waiting for a film to dramatize a full blown Marxist revolution in America led by zoomers with smart phones. It goes out of its way to demonize liberals who oppose Revolution. And it's framed entirely heroically without a shred of irony. And features a closing credits sequence with The Internationale blasting. Have it reclaim the "fight the power" message that corporate Hollywood co-opted using quintessentially Hollywood tropes. It doesn't have to be realistic. I just want to see it.
