Definitely reads like another “the game is launching in two days just recolor that poncho we made as a fun cowboy themed Easter egg”

They weren't given the time and money is the only answer. My guess is that there were quite a few elements pared down or simply cut for release.

Like the end of the optional area awards you several chests with garbage in them. I think the chests were thought out as rewards and they're in good spots but the poo poo in them isn't what was initially envisioned by the developer.

Aside from one major NPC you can't miss near the end of the game, there's also one right beside the ship landing pad on Bogano in an easy to miss cavern - a useless Bogling that follows you into the ship that you will never see again (at least I didn't in my playthrough)

Will I have an opportunity to go back to Bogano after I finish this part of Dathomir?

What bothered me most was how Cal was surprised on Bogano every. Single. Time. BD jumped into a chest. Like, first couple days f times I can see that, but he didn’t seem familiar until Zeffo.

Also the fact the boxes still shook underwater.

Yeah, the final mission is a place you can’t go to until you select it from the ship.

We almost got a game with blastesr and bounty hunters because LucasFilm is very leery of using Jedi in games

So, ya know, Star Wars 1313

I know there's some criticism about *only* having a lightsaber in this game, but I kinda liked that focus. That said, I really hope it kicks off a return to more SW games so I can have a shooty one too.

Watching Cere mix up blaster use with saber use was great and it'd be nice to see that fleshed out in the future, or return to the time of JO/JA and give us an arsenal again

I cannot remember a single piece of media from Respawn ever, even once claiming it was Dark Souls-lite, and to their credit, I think that after 10 years were just going to have to accept that “respawning enemies and refilling health potions at save points” is just a mechanic of 3rd person action games now, the same way regenerating health became the true bog standard for FPS games over the last decade, despite nobody calling them all “Halo-lite”

Regenerating health is a single element of Halo, throw in low gravity, sticky bombs, floaty rear end vehicles, Halo's weird OHKO behind the back auto locking melee kills and you have something people would call a Halo-like.

But when you have multiple elements:

- Third person melee focus where timing and learning attacks is essential; you're circle strafing constantly
- Bosses are spongey brickwalls with several OHKOs
- Death equals the loss of XP that you have to run back for
- Heals are limited per "life" and refilling them respawns enemies
- Levels are massive but interconnected featuring various shortcuts to allow for easy backtracking
- Unforgiving is a good way to describe the difficulty

These are elements that didn't really start in From games, but all of them together and the way they're presented is the From Soft formula that created the Souls genre. Fallen Order follows this spot on but removes some other key elements you tend to see (various weapons with different moves, stats to upgrade, a social/multiplayer element) though those things weren't present in Sekiro and it's still a Souls game.

Jedi not using blasters always bothered me

Like you don't need to give up your lightsaber for a blaster and obviously it would't be much use against Sith but it's pretty weird to straight up not use projectile weapons at all

(I know that it's because it would detract from the Samurai/Knight Errant thematics but as long as we're nitpicking Star Wars why not)

the map design in both jedi outcast and jedi fallen order seems almost pathologically afraid of letting the player have too much fun.

At the very least they give you a map in Fallen Order and the design makes some sense. The maps in Jedi Outcast were terrible and super dragged down a good game.

Though speaking of Outcast, let me cut people into pieces with my lightsaber!

I love the missions on the Imperial Starbase and the ship - that level with the hangers you can turn on and off to make the stormtroopers fly out was great. And then you got Yavin Swamps which has to be the worst map design in any game I've played.

When you figure out the quickest and easiest way to kill a force user is to quickly grab them with choke, lift them in to the air by snapping the mouse upwards, and then hitting force push to launch them into the stratosphere. They might be resistant to light sabers and can deflect bullets, but gravity is a bitch. I think I even beat one of the bosses that way several times, you couldn't push her off the platform since she would just jump back, but if you launched her high enough into the air while still making it so she would land on the platform it was an instant win. I still remember all the screaming from falling enemies in that game, also how any time you shot a storm trooper or other enemy near any sort of high ledge the game would immediately launch them off the ledge like they got hit by a truck.

Or you could also jump high over them and pull them towards you as you go overhead, especially amusing against groups of storm troopers or other non-force enemies because a well timed leap could send 7-8 of them flying and screaming for several seconds. And that was supposed to be the stealth section, good times.

What they need to do next is make a proper bounty hunter game. Let me tool around with all the gadgets and get good enough to take down actual force users. Then they can make a true Dark Souls-ian sequel to JFO where your game can get invaded by one of those bounty hunter players.

Since they’re already aping Dark Souls, just go full Bloodborne and have the blaster in your offhand for parrying/triggering viscerals.
